POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Supervisor Supervisor, Auto Shop Non-Exempt CATEGORY: Classified GRADE: G (Skilled Trades) JOB SUMMARY: Supervise the daily activities of all vehicle repair, maintenance and operations for the District. Ensure proper vehicle performance, operation, and safety of all college vehicles to include inventory, delivery, storage, and procurement of supplies, parts and equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 1. Responsible for supervising the daily activities of all District vehicle repair maintenance and operations to ensure proper performance and safety of all vehicles to include parts and equipment. 2. Coordinate the repair and maintenance of vehicles to ensure efficient and effective operation of the District’s transportation system. 20% 3. Evaluate and recommend all District vehicle repairs by using diagnostic equipment to help assess mechanical problems. Provide cost estimates and determine vehicle repairs by priority. 10% 4. Rebuild, replace, or repair vehicle parts such as engines, brakes, transmissions, electrical assemblies and accessories. Arrange contract repairs when necessary; recommend equipment replacement when warranted. 10% 5. Assign all vehicle repairs to staff and oversee completion. Responsible for inspecting repairs completed by technicians and performing safety inspections; order equipment and supplies. 10% 6. Supervise repair and maintenance of grounds equipment, to include gators, tractors, motorcycles, forklifts, pumps, generators, welding machines, and electrical units. 10% 7. Implement/improve operational department effectiveness. Plan and perform scheduled District preventive vehicle maintenance and develop appropriate ad-hoc reports. 5% 8. Effective: 6/01/11 Page 1 of 5 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Completion of trade school or specialized training. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years related experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: ASE Certified Master Tech, Forklift Certification, valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License/Passenger. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Excellent organizational communication and leadership skills. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the institution, vendors, service providers and general public. Ability to estimate cost of repairs and excellent customer service skills. Combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people to achieve operational objectives, causing action, understanding others or changing behavior of persuasiveness as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. 2. Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks and lift equipment. Forklifts-stand up, sit down, District buses, and all terrain and College vehicles. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, work-processing, database, e-mail and presentation software. Smart maintenance software; connect tech-data on-line software. Equipment profile software to track and evaluate vehicles. All data Pro, Mitchell on demand 5, DTC codes, next generation information action system.
