POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Construction Supervisor Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional D JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for supervising and overseeing multiple in-house construction projects for the district, coordinating work with other trades, as well as, performing construction tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. May supervise work performed by external contractors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 1. Oversee and schedule multiple in-house construction projects for the district. Supervise daily work operations and inspect work performed for workmanship. 2. Responsible for apportioning the work among the employees; determining the type of materials, supplies, machinery, equipment or tools to be used or merchandise to be bought, stocked and sold to support the repair of new construction. Provide general estimating costs. 25% 3. Assist in staffing, outlining projects plans, setting goals/deadlines and evaluating performance of outside contract personnel. 15% 4. Provide for the safety/security of the employees or the property by assuring policies and procedures are followed and safety training is provided. Responsible for implementing or monitoring legal compliance measures. 15% 5. Inspect and maintain machinery and equipment for department. 5% 6. Provide input for planning and controlling departmental budget. 5% 7. Other duties as assigned. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Physical Plant SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direct supervision of staff assigned. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Recommends expenditures. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associate’s degree or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience in the filed or a related area. Skills/Abilities: • Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. • Must have effective communication and problem solving skills in a variety of circumstances. • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. • Must be knowledgeable and have demonstrated experience as a supervisor. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties performed causes fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, walking and/or repetitive motion. Duties require continuous effort in working with moderately heavy (10 to 50lbs) materials producing moderate body fatigue. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, negotiating, selecting, developing, and motivating people are important to the highest degree due to constant interaction with other people, at any level within the organization or the community, position’s accountability for the development, motivation, assessment, and reward of employees, and to deal with irrational situations where the outcome is unpredictable. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed with moderate to considerable exposure to various disagreeable elements. Work may involve exposure to dust, and/or unpleasant conditions or frequent handling of disagreeable materials such as chemicals, lubricants, and inks.
