As we announced in November, we are paying shareholders an interim dividend of 2.6p on
6 February, an increase of 8% on last year.
This is a reflection of the company’s financial performance in generating the cash we need to invest in the business, reduce our debt, support the pension fund and pay you, our shareholders, progressive dividends.
Much of our focus continues to rest on rolling out fibre in the UK in order to make super-fast broadband more widely available. We continue to make good progress and recently announced plans to bring fibre to a further 178 exchanges, covering an additional 1.8 million homes and businesses. In total, more than six million homes and businesses currently have access to our fibre services and by the end of 2014 – a year earlier than we had previously planned – our fibre services will be available to around two-thirds of
UK premises. The government is making funds available to extend super-fast broadband into the final third of UK premises. We intend to bid for this funding which, together with funds from local government and other sources, could see more than 90% of UK premises having access to fibre broadband in approximately the next five years. We are examining a range of other technologies and solutions to get higher speed broadband to remaining parts of the country where it may not be possible to deploy fibre.
Preparations continue for our involvement in the London 2012 Games. This is a very exciting period for your company and for the whole country. As we announced in November, we are paying shareholders an interim dividend of 2.6p on
6 February, an increase of 8% on last year.
This is a reflection of the company’s financial performance in generating the cash we need to invest in the business, reduce our debt, support the pension fund and pay you, our shareholders, progressive dividends.
Much of our focus continues to rest on rolling out fibre in the UK in order to make super-fast broadband more widely available. We continue to make good progress and recently announced plans to bring fibre to a further 178 exchanges, covering an additional 1.8 million homes and businesses. In total, more than six million homes and businesses currently have access to our fibre services and by the end of 2014 – a year earlier than we had previously planned – our fibre services will be available to around two-thirds of
UK premises. The government is making funds available to extend super-fast broadband into the final third of UK premises.
