Finance
Bachelor of Science, Business Administration
In a global economy, the world of finance is more challenging,
complex—and filled with more opportunities than ever.
The Finance Emphasis provides students with the opportunity
to obtain professional certifications including the Chartered
Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
and Certificate in Financial Management (CFM).
Through your coursework, you’ll be able to:
• Apply financial concepts, models and problem solving
techniques to real world situations
• Engage in meaningful interaction with professionals in the field
• Explore ethical dilemmas in finance and learn how to react
appropriately
• Integrate primary financial databases, online services and other
finance-related software
• Develop critical communication skills and a global perspective
You’ll be able to apply these skills to careers in corporate finance,
investments, institutional finance, financial planning and other business
opportunities requiring an in-depth understanding of financial tools, theories
and problem solving techniques.
“The smaller class sizes are
definitely a plus. I’ve gotten to
know every one of my professors,
and have done a lot of hands-on
work with them. They are available to help me with a problem,
or answer any questions I have.”
John Skogund, Class of 2011
“Our courses are relevant to the real world, in order to help our students
be successful in their chosen careers. Our students get a solid foundation
in courses covering topics like corporate finance, investments, banking,
venture capital and private equity. Just as importantly, they learn great
communication, interpersonal and presentation skills so they can
distinguish themselves as high-performing, team-oriented leaders.”
Garth Allen, Professor of Finance
Learn from seasoned faculty with solid experience
All of your courses will be taught by top professors who are academically and
professionally qualified. They thrive on interacting with students and helping
them achieve their potential. Our professors put teaching first, and produce
high-quality research that adds to the body of knowledge in their field.
“Being a part of
the Student and
Foundation Fund class
was one of the most
beneficial experiences
for me, because it’s real
money, it’s hands-on,
and you’re doing
something that you know really makes a
difference. I also appreciate getting to work
on the best technology while I’m in school.
The Finance Trading Room is awesome.”
The credentials that matter
Graduating seniors of the Monfort College of Business have
consistently scored in the top 5-10 percent on the national
Educational Testing Service Major Field Test in Business, which
assesses students’ core business knowledge.
Unparalleled accolades
In 2011, the Student and Foundation Fund (SAFF) class won first
place at the Global Asset Management Education (G.A.M.E.) forum.
The SAFF class won in the Undergraduate Core Student
Funds category, competing against students from 24 countries.
