Old Business A. College of Arts and Sciences AAS Proposal to Revise Program Department of African American Studies (AAS) 10 November 2011: The proposal to revise the program was Tabled Unanimously on 10 November 2011: “so that the current program description and statement on impacts can be included. The current program includes restricted electives from History and Literature, requiring input from those units, and the proposal does not indicate how the current electives in ANTH, CTAR, ECON, GEOG, HIST, PLSC, and PSY will fit into the proposed new program. A memo on the department name change should be sent to the Dean.” 12 January 2012: Motion to table because none of the concerns from the prior tabling were addressed: Tabled Unanimously The guest from AAS described the reasons for the changes and replacement of other units’ courses, linking the changes to program review feedback, desired structure, support for AAS courses developed since the current program was introduced, and the resulting lack of room for non-AAS courses for requirements and restricted electives. Afterward, there was discussion on the multiple units’ impact statements, effects on interdisciplinarity of the program, and how the changes are associated with the history of the shift from being a program/young department to a department with faculty to develop courses. Motion to Approve: 7 for, 0 against, 4 abstentions. PLSC Request for New Course PLSC346 International Political Economy (previously tabled for input/discussion with SAC and ECON) The guests from ECON repeated their concerns expressed in their impact statement on the proposal. The Guest from PLSC reviewed points distributed prior to the meeting, emphasizing that the course has a disciplinary perspective different from other disciplines. A lively discussion ensued over the topic of political economy and disciplinary perspectives/approaches to the subject matter. Motion to Approve: 10 for, 1 against, 0 abstentions B. College of Business Proposals to Revise Programs MBA—Management Specialization Graduate Certificate in Entrepreneurship and MBA Specialization in Entrepreneurship 9 February 2012: Both of the above proposals were tabled by unanimous vote because they are incomplete. The MGA proposal included no description of the current program. The other two revisions were included on one form and neither provided enough information about its relationship to the other. The COB proposal Remains on the Table: the proposals have not been completed as needed (the same proposals that were previously tabled were resubmitted without corrections). C. College of Health and Human Services Request for New Course DTC258 American Regional Foods 2-09-12: The above course was tabled unanimously. Comment: Anthropology might want to examine this proposal. The catalog description should not simply reproduce the rationale. Motion to Pass with the Comment that the catalog description still needs to be changed: the catalog description should not make specific reference to General Education. Unanimous. IV. New Business A.
