Old Business College of Health and Human Services School of Health Sciences New Degree Program Public Health (Bachelor of Science) At the meeting of 1-24-13, this proposal was tabled unanimously for discussion with AAS (regarding potential inclusion of AAS 351 The Social Context of African American Health), PHIL (regarding the potential inclusion of PHIL 223 Medical Ethics), and SAC (regarding potential impacts from including two of its courses, particularly SOCL 345 Ethnographic Methods). The CHHS guest described the need for the program and responded to questions on how it should be more inclusive with existing courses, especially those on ethnic disparities in health care and on ethics, from AAS, PHIL, and PLSC. The guest stated that the program could be expanded but the intent was to get it “put on the books” as a first step and to expand it later. SAC described problems with using its SOCL345 course and that academic units need to be consulted prior to including their courses in a program. An agreement was made to contact these departments for input. The proposal Remained Tabled – Unanimous. IV. New Business A.
