Day 2 Thursday 20th March: Theoretical background and practical tips
for Infant Lung Function Testing
(Designed for those with some experience of infant lung function testing,
whether in supportive or leading role)

Forced expiratory manoeuvres – the tidal and
raised volume techniques (Dr Sooky Lum)

Small group allocation according to expertise

Practical sessions within small groups, to cover
issues such as ethics of infant lung function tests;
recruitment; parental consent and questions;
calibration; lab maintenance and hygiene,
sedation, practical demos with lung model,
selecting appropriate settings, data analysis and
QC.
These sessions will be designed according to need
and expertise after discussion with delegates

Day 3 Friday 21st March: Detailed analysis and interpretation of Infant
Lung Function Tests
(This final day is designed specifically for those with prior experience of data
collection and analysis using the Jaeger/CareFusion Masterscreen Babybody
device. Participants are welcome to bring examples of their own data for reanalysis/interpretation.)

Practical sessions: small group activities according to
need/requests including
 opportunity to reanalyse own data
 further guidance on equipment set up / calibration
 assorted exercises ‘spot the errors’ when analysing
data
 discussion of infant lung function study design issues
including a ‘statistical surgery’ that participants can
submit queries to in advance
