ITU-T/ ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization” Abstract Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 Speaker: Brad Medford, AT&T Session: NGN Market Drivers: A Carrier’s perspective Title of Presentation: IPTV as a Market Driver This talk discuses the future of video services as the transition from the traditional model to new IP based delivery and paradigm. This transition will enable new services to be offered; but the IP layer is only one portion of the solution. The development of standards that address the other layers will speed the deployment and reduce the cost of these network services. Convergence is and will continue to happen; how fast and well will depend in large part to the ability of devices to communicate over standardized interfaces. As consumers being to experience and realize the benefits of a converged communication system, the degree that service provides can offer tighter integration of applications and services the better position they will have in the competitive market place.
