CORPORATE:
1994 – 2002 UBS WARBURG, London:
2001 – 2002: Head of Latin American and East European Equity Sales:
The Latin American and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) desks were merged in 2001
and I assumed management of the combined group. My primary task was to direct the merger
process and to ensure that the combined desk of 10 salespeople would produce results which
could match those achieved by each individual desk prior to the merger. To my investment
advisory role were added the Russian, South African, Polish and Turkish markets and as such I
had access to research on companies such as Lukoil and Gazprom. Promoted to Director of UBS
Warburg in 2002.
1997 – 2001: Head of Latin American Equity Sales:
The client advisory role continued as before, but to this was added the responsibility for a small
team of 5 salespeople. By the time of our merger with the EMEA desk in 2001 we were ranked
1st by the Institutional Investor pole and by trading income. Our team had been ranked 5th when I
assumed the role as Head of Desk. Promoted to Executive Director in 1998.
1994 – 1997: Latin American Equity Sales:
Initially as graduate trainee, later as Associate Director, my role was to guide investment and
pension fund portfolio managers on how to manage risk and return in Latin America by investing
in the right companies and countries at the right time. This involved a steep learning curve as
vital to the role was an understanding not only of Latin American macro- and microeconomics
and individual businesses, but also of the product base of each client and the time frame of their
investment interests. Research was conducted in Latin America and London which included
analysis of oil and gas companies such as Petrobras, Pemex and YPF.
1994:
Attended the three month long graduate trainee programme which gave a basic grounding in
macro- and micro-economics, accounting and company valuation.
