Bench Fees Guidelines
As per Legal Notice 258 of 2009, “Bench fees cover the cost of consumable materials and
facilities used during research projects and will be established on a case by case basis.”
Enclosed please find new established guidelines that have been agreed with Rector in a recent
meeting held on the subject.
Bench fees shall include expenses related to:
1) Consumables (including sample tests where applicable);
2) Materials; and
3) Specialised equipment that is not available at the University of Malta and which is
indespensable for the carrying out of the research study
Bench fees shall not however include expenses related to :
1) Conference participation as well as related travel and accomodation
2) Purchase of personal computers / laptops.
3) Administrative costs
4) Buying of books / periodicals / journals
5) Other travelling costs
Any other expenses that are not included above are subject to the approval of the Director of
Finance
