Most classroom technology has been updated and maintained,
which has greatly improved classroom instruction.
In November of 2012 Professors Barkey and Mangin were
awarded nearly $1000 by the Student Senate to replace
outdated classroom maps. We will order those and hope to
have them in place during the Spring Semester 2013.

We discussed the pros and cons of having numerous different assignments
for students to keep track of and faculty to grade. Most faculty agreed that
frequent assessment helps students develop work/life skills of keeping track
of multiple things at one time.

We discussed the advantages of using primary documents to test and often
contradict the kinds of “common knowledge” that students often bring to
history classes.

We shared our rubrics for essay grading, as well as a number of ways of
writing essay prompts. We also discussed the pros and cons of essays
written at home and essays written during exams.

We assessed all forms of communication and how we strengthen them for
our students in all classes in our department. Most Instructors assess verbal
and listening skills as well as reading and writing skills. We also discussed
how we support student’s nonverbal communication as well.
