Prerequisites
At least a 2-ii degree in Science, Engineering or a degree in Medicine.
All candidates must satisfy UCL's English Language requirements.
Course Aims
The formation of high quality images of internal structures or processes in the body is of
fundamental importance for the accurate diagnosis and/or monitoring of disease. The aim of
this course is to provide an introduction to the basic principles, techniques and applications of
biomedical imaging.
Method of Instruction
The lectures will cover the main imaging modalities in current clinical use, namely X-Ray
imaging including computed tomography (CT), Nuclear medicine, Ultrasound imaging,
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and optical methods; as well as more recent
developments in medical imaging research such as photoacoustic imaging and electrical
impedance tomography.
