Spring 2011 College of the Redwoods Program Review Committee Executive Summary Adopted November 6, 2009 Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas. The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under the strategic planning objectives. Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the Integrated Planning Committees, and the District. Program Review Subject/Service Area: Agriculture Program Review Authors: Franz Rulofson Summary and Recommendations: Additional Comments: 1. Program strengths: Recommend: Clarify Plant Science area need Strong community support Program organization done well Very active advisory committee (Farm bureau) Stable enrollments 2. Program challenges/obstacles: Recommend: Need shop space for Ag mechanics Prioritize needs Lack of district funds to support program other than CalTrans P/T Greenhouse staff needed grant 3. Commendations Well organized program Curriculum up to date; one new course proposed for next year & Recommendations: The needs addendum had a request that applies for only two specific courses – Ag 17 & 52-can these courses be taught without the requested item? 4. Program Budget/Funding Sources: Cal Trans funding has been helpful, but is limited; no operational budget; still much equipment required that is not covered by Cal Trans funding 5. Program Goals/Plans: For those that fell short of desired outcomes a plan was submitted Goals and timelines seem reasonable Work in AT 108 has been completed. The computer, projector and Elmo have significantly improved the education delivery in this room. Program farm manager salary is covered for numerous years thru Cal Grant; major capital equipment is good 6. Program Outcomes Assessment (PLOs/SLOs): Program organization done well Curriculum is current 7. Student Success/Achievement/Basic Skills obstacles/challenges: Four courses are below the norm Recommend citing sources No new goals submitted Analyze AG-7 more thoroughly54 PRC Recommendation: 1) All programs would benefit from a formalized, institution-led follow-up system/tracking of our graduates. 2) Clarification/development of process from grant funded programs/positions to district funding. 3) District-wide plan for technology and equipment maintenance and replacement. Process: Completed Executive Summary forms will be sent to program review authors. PRC will forward Executive Summaries to the appropriate integrated planning committees.
