2011
College of the Redwoods Program Review Committee Executive Summary Adopted November 6, 2009 Mission Statement The College of the Redwoods’ Program Review Committee leads and facilitates authentic assessment as it relates to student success and planning at the institution for all subject and service areas. The committee reviews Annual and Comprehensive Program Reviews that provide the strong foundation upon which College of the Redwoods develops, identifies, states and documents quality improvement plans and goals including providing the direction of prioritization of funding, and support needs as organized under the strategic planning objectives. Objective: To provide an evaluative Executive Summary of this program’s review for authors, the Integrated Planning Committees, and the District. Program Review Subject/Service Area: __Digital Media__________________ Program Review Authors: _ Clyde Johnson __________________________________ Summary and Recommendations: 1. Program strengths:
Consistent success considering lack of updated technological
software/hardware
Online Enrollments have increased
Enrollments overall are strong
Additional Comments: 2. Program challenges/obstacles:
Budget is not sufficient to provide updated computers and
software
Curriculum update issues
3. Commendations
Strong program in spite of budget and insufficient materials
4. Program Budget/Funding Sources:
Need hardware and software; line item originally in operating
budget was removed
5. Program Goals/Plans:
Two SLO assessments for each course-beginning Spring 2011
Curriculum updated, cleaned up
QIPs no longer relevant; create new goals and plans
6. Program Outcomes Assessment (PLOs/SLOs):
Assessments forthcoming in Spring 2011;
Grade rubrics will target SLO assessments
7. Student Success/Achievement/Basic Skills
obstacles/challenges:
Students with English level 350 and below have lower success
rates in general. All DM courses include reading from textbooks
and web sources. This data can also reflect that students with
higher academic levels of success, such as English 1A/B are
academically higher overall and more able
& Recommendations:
Update curriculum
Create new goals, plans
For successful transfer, need current equipment
Requesting $58,000 to replace computers and software
Recommend: Improve articulation with other schools
to fulfill requirements for earning higher grades in any
class. Math is similar. DM classes are "project based"
so technical problem-solving and creative skills are
more relevant to the success of DM students.
Between 7% and 10% Growth in the field
Some type of formal student tracking for success
PRC Recommendation: 1) All programs would benefit from a formalized, institution-led follow-up system/tracking
of our graduates. 2) Clarification/development of process from grant funded programs/positions to district funding.
3) District-wide plan for technology and equipment maintenance and replacement.
Process: Completed Executive Summary forms will be sent to program review authors. PRC will forward Executive Summaries to the appropriate integrated planning committees.
