For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, May 11, 2006 Cameron’s department of communication honors students at annual awards ceremony The Cameron University Department of Communication recently held its annual awards banquet and Lambda Pi Eta induction ceremony. During the ceremony, awards were given in four areas: speech, broadcast, public relations/organizational communication, and journalism. Students who received medals from the speech team for exemplary performances include: George Bryan and Jonathan Hooks both from Duncan; Kamaya Ousley from Fort Sill; Lauren Barbour, Bethany Beck, Sarah Collins, Eric Jones, Malinda Rust, Alison Turner and Clint Williams, all from Lawton; Zach Fort from Mannford; and Cathryn Good from Tipton. Broadcast students were recognized and received medals in the following categories: Kenny Scarle from Altus, Radio Production; Kyle Weatherly from Garden City, Kansas, for TV Producing; and Anthony Drella from State Center, Iowa, TV Directing. Marjorie Negron-Munoz from Lawton and James Norris from Chickasha received medals for most improved broadcast student. Public Relations/Organizational Communication medallions were given to the following students for their delivery of professional papers at regional and state scholarly conferences in the past academic year: Belinda Osborne from Cache; Sarah Collins, Emma Stossel Cox, Scott Pratt and Malinda Rust all from Lawton; and Teri Knox from Marlow. (over) Communication Awards, ADD ONE Journalism students were also recognized and received medals for their contribution to Cameron University’s newspaper The Collegian. Editorial staff receiving awards of excellence include: Kenny Scarle (Business Manager) from Altus; Kathleen Kelly (Copy Editor) from Cache; Lisa Snider (Managing Editor), and Joshua Rouse (A&E Editor), both from Duncan; and David Bublitz (Assistant Copy Editor), Christina Frye (Sports Editor), and Sarah Warren (News Editor), all from Lawton. Reporting and Production staff receiving awards of excellence include: Petulah Olibert (reporter) from Castries, Saint Lucia; Jessica Lane (reporter) from Duncan; Joan Hagy (reporter) from Grandfield; Rhyan McGuire (photographer) from Hastings; Regan Frizzelle (sports reporter) and Thomas Pruitt (cartoonist), both from Lawton; Kareem Guiste (lay-out assistant) from Roseau, Dominica; and Bira Vidal (reporter) from Salvador-Bahia, Brazil. Students receiving awards of commendation include reporters James Norbert and Blake Red Elk from Walters.
