Cameron communication department holds
awards ceremony, Lambda Pi Eta induction
The Cameron University Department of Communication held its annual awards and Lambda Pi Eta
induction ceremony during an end-of-the-semester banquet.
At the ceremony students from journalism – both broadcast and print – public relations and the speech and
debate team were honored for their outstanding contribution to the department this year.
During the ceremony, medals were given to the following members of the CU Speech and Debate Team:
Jennifer Adrian, Bethany Beck, Sarah Collins, Allegra Kephart, Malinda Rust and Clint Williams, all from
Lawton; Zach Fort from Manford; Jonathan Hooks from Duncan; and Kamaya Ousley from Fort Sill.
The top broadcast students were recognized for their efforts in specific fields of broadcasting and received
medals for their work. They include: Aaron Gilbee (radio production), Lindsay Baugh (TV production and
editing), Adrian Woods and Anthony Garcia (TV production), Amanda Palumbo and Chris Corral (TV
directing), all from Lawton; and Lisa Eddy from St Kitts Nevis and Kyle Weatherly from Garden City,
Kan., (TV photography).
Public relations/organizational communication medallions were handed out to several communication
students for their delivery of professional papers at scholarly conferences during the past academic year.
Students receiving this medallion included Collins, Fort, Scott Pratt, Bonnie Tomahsah and Jan
Woomavoyah, all of Lawton; Jenny Duke from Altus; and Antonia Edward of St. Lucia.

Collins, Edward, Fort and Woomavoyah presented their papers at the Oklahoma Speech Theater
Communication Association Convention at the University of Central Oklahoma, while Pratt and Collins
made paper presentations at West Texas A & M University. Tomahsah and Collins also presented papers
at the University of Oklahoma and Duke presented her paper at a Phi Kappa Phi coffeehouse at Cameron
University.
The following journalism students were also recognized and received medals for their contributions to
Cameron’s campus newspaper The Collegian: Christina Frye, Angela Gradoz (features editor), Jennifer
Hardy, Kari Lewis, Justin Liszeski, Rosana Navas (business manager), Pratt (photographer), Thomas Pruitt
(cartoonist), Angela Sanders (arts and entertainment editor), Sarah Warren, all of Lawton; Dawn Holt of
Quanah, Texas; Ian Mitchell (webmaster) and Petulah Olibert, both from St. Lucia; Sonya Ray of Altus;
Lauren Slate of Fort Sill; Leah Hicks (graphic artist) and Kathy Kelly (copy editor) both of Cache; Anna
Politano (managing editor) of Brazil; and Josh Rouse (sports editor) Lisa Snider (news editor) both from
Duncan.
The awards ceremony also included the induction of several communication students into Lambda Pi Eta,
the communication honor society. These student included Teri Hillier of Marlow, Rachelle Pool of Duncan,
Amber Reed from Corpus Christi, Texas, and Emma Stossel of Lawton, as well as Adrian, Collins, Duke,
Fort and Eddy.
Baugh also received an award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
