For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, March 29, 2005 Eight Cameron University students, alumni win broadcast awards at annual OBEA contest Six Cameron University students and two CU graduates won a total of 11 broadcast awards at the 15th annual student competition sponsored by the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association (OBEA). Cameron’s 11 awards represent the second highest won by any institution in the state. The OBEA is comprised of 17 institutions in Oklahoma and during the competition, students compete in 25 categories in radio, television, video and script writing. Student entries were produced as part of class assignments for CUTV or KCCU-FM during the 2004 calendar year. Those who received awards included: Aaron Gilbee of Lawton, first place in radio promo, third place in radio public service announcement (PSA) and third place in television PSA; Tommy Yi and Matt Sexton, both of Lawton, first place in television photography and second place in television entertainment; Darrell Kosechequetah of Lawton, first place in television documentary and third place in television photography; Brett Stephens of Cache, second place in music video; Jonathan Colbert of Lawton, second place in radio commercial; Ron Lutsko of Lawton, third place radio commercial and Heather Nance of Hominy, third place in radio feature story. Sexton and Yi graduated from Cameron in 2004. “Once again, the students exceeded our expectations,” said Steve Adams, assistant communication professor at Cameron. “We had a real breakthrough on the creative side of video this year with awards in documentary, photography, entertainment and music video.
