COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students are expected to master Ohio’s Grade Eight Social Studies Learning Standards and develop
21st Century Skills. The content focus is America’s history from Colonization to Reconstruction (13
Colonies, Revolutionary War, Confederation to Constitution, New Nation, Age of Jackson,
Manifest Destiny, A Nation Divided, Age of Reform, Civil War, Reconstruction).

Students can expect to experience an interactive and differentiated classroom that encourages
preparation, participation, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, collaboration,
communication, multiple perspectives and a variety of teaching methods in order to help develop
life long learners and responsible citizens.

ONLINE TEXTBOOK:
Students will be given a TCI Online Student Subscription which includes the TCI History Alive! The United
States Through Industrialism textbook, reading tools, supplemental resources and end-of-lesson reading
challenges and assessments. The TCI Online Student Subscription plays an integral role in a student’s
mastery of Ohio’s Grade Eight Social Studies Learning Standards and
the development of 21st Century Skills.
DAILY PROCEDURE:

Come to class prepared (paper, writing utensil, assignments, folder/binder…) and ready to
LEARN. Take seat quickly & quietly. Check Agenda Board for daily lesson plan & homework.
GRADES:
v
Students earn grades based on total points in the categories of Classwork, Homework &
Assessment. Absent students need to see teacher upon return. Late work is reduced 10%.
