Building a Classroom Community/ American Symbols/Organizing Reading, Math, and Writing Workshops The SUNSHINES continued to build relationships through collaborating, respecting each other, and being flexible. We had many class discussions that focused on being able to create the best learning environment. NARRATIVE WRITINGS CELEBRATING AMERICA RICH MATH PROBLEMS Social Studies/Science/Health READING * The SUNSHINES used literature, PEBBLE GO, videos, and more to learn about American symbols. They created a fact book about the symbols and had classroom discussions about their learning. * WE CONTINUED TO BUILD READING WORKSHOP ROUTINES AND STAMINA. THE SUNSHINES PRACTICED “READ TO SELF” AND CHOOSING “JUST RIGHT” BOOKS THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. TECHNOLOGY * The SUNSHINES participated in an introduction to our classroom laptops. They learned how to login, navigate through a couple learning programs, and how to respect the property. LETTERS OF THE WEEK: REVIEW OF THE ALPHABET Practicing Fluency * WE READ SEVERAL NONFICTION TEXTS ABOUT AMERICAN SYMBOLS. SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: REVIEW OF THE KINDERGARTEN HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS ! * After learning about the American symbols, the SUNSHINES practiced illustrating their own. Social Development * The SUNSHINES continue to build classroom routines. We worked together to talk about the following words that we will use throughout the year: persevere, respect, collaborate, communicate, imagine, flexible, and create. AFTER A MINI-LESSON, THE SUNSHINES CHOOSE THEIR PAPER OR BOOK AND WRITE ABOUT STORIES FROM THEIR LIVES. We hope to have at least one representative from each family there. We will be sharing a lot of information about your SUNSHINE’S year in first grade. * AS A CLASS, WE BEGAN TO LOOK AT WORDS CLOSELY. DURING WORD STUDY, WE TOOK A VARIETY OF WORDS AND MADE MORE WORDS USING THE LETTERS. SEE IF YOUR SUNSHINE CAN MAKE WORDS OUT OF HIS/HER NAME AT HOME.
