FIRST GRADE VOTE
Social Studies/Science/Health
READING
* After reading several books, participating in
different discussions, and viewing our Image of the
Week, the SUNSHINES were involved with a first
grade vote. After tallying their thoughts on the
topics of favorite sport teams, desserts, day of the
week, and school subject, we graphed the results in
different ways. The whole first grade participated
in this vote and each classroom collaborated to
form a graph. We created a picture graph and
shared it with the rest of the first grade. * WE SWITCHED OUT OUR READING LOGS
FOR YOU TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR READING
AT HOME. TECHNOLOGY
* We continue to write narratives and transfer
them onto Pixie.
SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: OUR, ARE
The Arts
* The SUNSHINES got to observe and ask
questions about the 5th grade projects. The
5th graders integrated art, technology, and 3D
displays to present about different animals
and their habitats. The SUNSHINES created
their own way to vote and be accountable for
all of their observations. After creating their
own vote, we shared out our opinions and
supported them with reasons.
* We focused a lot on this week on
expectations.
* WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON READ-TO-SELF
TIME AND NOT GETTING DISTRACTED BY
OTHERS AND FOCUSING ON READING.

Using Pixie
* WE TALKED ABOUT THE EXPECTATION THAT
YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE BRINGING HOME
AT LEAST 3 JUST RIGHT BOOKS FROM A
SPECIFIED BOOK BASKET. IF YOU WOULD
LIKE TO KNOW WHAT BASKET YOUR CHILD
SHOULD BE PICKING FROM, PLEASE LET ME
KNOW. YOU CAN ALSO BE CHECKING THE
FRONT OR BACK OF THE LEVELED BOOKS TO
SEE IF YOUR CHILD IS BRINGING HOME THE
CORRECT BOOKS. * WE MADE AN ANCHOR CHART AS A
CLASSROOM RESOURCE ON DESCRIPTIVE
WORDS. WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO ADD
MORE OF THESE WORDS TO OUR
NARRATIVES TO “PUMP UP” OUR
WRITINGS.
* WE ALSO REVIEWED NARRATIVE WORDS
THAT HELP TRANSITION FROM OUR
BEGINNINGS, MIDDLES, AND ENDINGS.
* FOR OUR QUESTION OF THE DAY
THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, WE FOCUSED ON
WHY WE VOTE. SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT
WERE FOCUSED ON WERE: CONTENT,
PUNCTUATION, ADDING DETAILS, AND
APPROPRIATE USE OF CAPITAL LETTERS.
