NOVEMBER 2ND-6TH SUNSHINE SHARES CHECK OUT THE LEARNING RADIATING FROM THE SUNSHINE ROOM THIS WEEK! Global Read Aloud Sharing! Creating/Designing Rich Math Problems Themes of the Week: ! Voting and Citizenship/Measurement /Guided Reading Groups/ Narrative Writing The SUNSHINES had a Vote-tastic week of talking about FAIR vs. EQUAL and voting. We modeled situations in the classroom to talk more in depth about Fairness vs. Equality. We talked about Citizenship. RICH PROBLEMS VOTING PICTURE GRAPH FIRST GRADE VOTE Social Studies/Science/Health READING * After reading several books, participating in different discussions, and viewing our Image of the Week, the SUNSHINES were involved with a first grade vote. After tallying their thoughts on the topics of favorite sport teams, desserts, day of the week, and school subject, we graphed the results in different ways. The whole first grade participated in this vote and each classroom collaborated to form a graph. We created a picture graph and shared it with the rest of the first grade. * WE SWITCHED OUT OUR READING LOGS FOR YOU TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR READING AT HOME. TECHNOLOGY * We continue to write narratives and transfer them onto Pixie. SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: OUR, ARE The Arts * The SUNSHINES got to observe and ask questions about the 5th grade projects. The 5th graders integrated art, technology, and 3D displays to present about different animals and their habitats. The SUNSHINES created their own way to vote and be accountable for all of their observations. After creating their own vote, we shared out our opinions and supported them with reasons. * We focused a lot on this week on expectations. * WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON READ-TO-SELF TIME AND NOT GETTING DISTRACTED BY OTHERS AND FOCUSING ON READING. WORD FAMILIES OF THE WEEK: ACK/ANK Social Development Reading and Writing Using Pixie * WE TALKED ABOUT THE EXPECTATION THAT YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE BRINGING HOME AT LEAST 3 JUST RIGHT BOOKS FROM A SPECIFIED BOOK BASKET. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT BASKET YOUR CHILD SHOULD BE PICKING FROM, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. YOU CAN ALSO BE CHECKING THE FRONT OR BACK OF THE LEVELED BOOKS TO SEE IF YOUR CHILD IS BRINGING HOME THE CORRECT BOOKS. * WE MADE AN ANCHOR CHART AS A CLASSROOM RESOURCE ON DESCRIPTIVE WORDS. WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO ADD MORE OF THESE WORDS TO OUR NARRATIVES TO “PUMP UP” OUR WRITINGS. * WE ALSO REVIEWED NARRATIVE WORDS THAT HELP TRANSITION FROM OUR BEGINNINGS, MIDDLES, AND ENDINGS. * FOR OUR QUESTION OF THE DAY THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, WE FOCUSED ON WHY WE VOTE. SPECIFIC SKILLS THAT WERE FOCUSED ON WERE: CONTENT, PUNCTUATION, ADDING DETAILS, AND APPROPRIATE USE OF CAPITAL LETTERS. Creating Narrative Books! with Descriptive Words ! WE MADE MANY COMPARISONS AND OBSERVATIONS BETWEEN OBJECTS. * WE COMPLETED A TRIANGLE RICH PROBLEM. THE KIDS HAD TO VIEW DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF TRIANGLES IN DIFFERENT FORMATIONS AND BUILD UPON THEM. AFTER CONSTRUCTING THEIR CREATIONS, THEY COMMUNICATED THEIR THINKING. * WE MADE OUR NOVEMBER CALENDAR TO HIGHLIGHT EVENTS.
