We celebrated our freedom through writing, poetry, stories, and discussions of our loved ones. We created a display in our hallway to honor these Veterans. * We watched our IMAGE OF THE WEEK and asked questions and posed wonders about Veterans Day. TECHNOLOGY * We continue to write narratives and transfer them onto Pixie. WORD FAMILIES OF THE WEEK: ACK/ANK Reading Groups * WE READ SEVERAL BOOKS ABOUT AMERICA. SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: WOULD, COULD The Arts * After talking about Veterans Day, the SUNSHINES collaborated with their BIG buddies to create a letter and art project. * We created flip books of the 5 branches of the ser vice. We studied their symbols and wrote their names in alphabetical order. Social Development *We began some new classroom reading routines where the expectations have been raised. Reminders and Upcoming Events * Don’t forget that your child’s QUILT is due on Monday, November 16th. * WE BEGAN A MORE FOCUSED ROUTINE DURING READING WORKSHOP WITH HIGHER EXPECTATIONS. AFTER READING A MENTOR TEXTS (AND THINKING ALOUD AS READERS), WE DISCUSSED OUR GOALS IN THE AREAS OF READING ENGAGEMENT, FLUENCY, STRATEGIES, AND COMPREHENSION. WE MADE THESE GOALS VISIBLE ON A CHART AND CONTINUE TO DIFFERENTIATE BASED ON EACH SUNSHINE’S NEEDS. THIS CHART WILL PROVIDE ANOTHER RESOURCE AND LEARNING TOOL FOR THE KIDS TO VIEW AND CONSIDER BEFORE INDEPENDENT PRACTICE TIME. Question ! of the Day ! * IN WRITING, WE ALSO STARTED HIGHER EXPECTATIONS OF THE CONTENT OF OUR SENTENCES. FOR THE QUESTION OF THE DAY, THE KIDS WERE CHALLENGED TO WRITE AN ANSWER WITH AT LEAST ONE DESCRIPTIVE WORD. WE INTRODUCED THE LANGUAGE OF “ADJECTIVE.” WE FOCUSED ON LETTER FORMATION, PUNCTUATION, AND USING CAPITAL LETTERS CORRECTLY. * WE DID SEVERAL WORD STUDY SORTS AND GAMES TO LEARN THE “ACK” AND “ANK” FAMILIES. CHECK OUT PROGRESS BOOK FOR HOW YOUR CHILD DID ON THE ASSESSMENT.
