BIG BUDDIES COLLABORATIVE MATH GAMES CREATING BASED ON INTERESTS Social Studies/Science/Health READING * The SUNSHINES shared their quilt squares to communicate their traditions throughout the year. * WOW! WHAT A GREAT WEEK OF READING WORKSHOP! WE HAD MANY POWERFUL DISCUSSIONS AND SHARES OF HOW READERS THINK. * After reading a variety of books about the first Thanksgiving, we noticed how clothing, shelter, getting food, and more are different from today. We compared and contrasted the past and the present. * WE CONTINUE TO PRACTICE READING WORKSHOP ROUTINES. WE HAVE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD THROUGHOUT THIS WEEK TO TARGET INDIVIDUAL LEARNING GOALS. THE SUNSHINES HAVE THESE GOALS VISIBLE IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN THEIR READING BINS. ASK YOUR CHILD WHAT THEY ARE WORKING ON. TECHNOLOGY * We continue to write narratives and transfer them onto Pixie. WORD FAMILIES OF THE WEEK: REVIEW SUNSHINE WORDS OF THE WEEK: DAY, GIVE The Arts * After reading Pharrell Williams’ book HAPPY, the SUNSHINES used their imaginations to create an object that displayed when they are happy. Social Development * We continue to work on building the 6 Habits of Thinking in our classroom. The SUNSHINES focused on persevering, communicating, and collaborating this week. Reminders and Upcoming Events * If you have not tuned in your quilt square of traditions or your photo that shows your child’s interests, please send it in as soon as possible. We will be displaying these items at our show on December 10th. * Progress Reports will come home on Friday, November 20th. Please take the items in the envelope out (they are yours to keep), sign the front of the envelope, and return the white envelope to school. Unit of Folktales * WE WILL BE SWITCHING READING AT HOME BOOKS SOON. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS WE BUILD UP THE EXPECTATIONS IN CLASS FOR OUR WORKSHOP. WE ARE UP TO 40 MINUTES OF INDEPENDENT READING PRACTICE! WRITING ! * WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON WRITING MECHANICS WITH THE QUESTION OF THE DAY. WE TALKED ABOUT PROPER USE OF CAPITAL LETTERS, WHEN SENTENCES END, AND TRANSFERRING WORD STUDY WORDS CORRECTLY. * WE FOCUSED ON ADDING MORE INFORMATION WITH ADJECTIVES TO OUR WRITINGS TO “PUMP THEM UP.” * WE CREATED A SHARE LETTER TO “TEDDY THE TURKEY” THAT INCLUDED LOOKING AT A MAP AND GIVING HIM DIRECTIONS. ! Writing Narratives on Paper and on Pixie ! ! ! ! ! * WE PLAYED SEVERAL MATH GAMES TO PRACTICE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION STRATEGIES. * WE INTRODUCED TIME AND EXPLORE WITH CLOCKS. * If your child is wearing or bringing something into school to show how they represent how they are happy, please have them bring it to school on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19th. * SAVE THE DATE: The first grade will be having a special performance on December 10th at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate our uniqueness and interests.
