This is a project position funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) for a maximum period of two (2) years. This is not a permanent position. Job Duties: This project position is responsible for providing physical activity tranining and techincal assistance to the two communities in the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) Communities Program grant. This position serves as the primary physical activity contact for La Crosse and Wood Counties as they implement their CPPW initiatives; provides statewide consultation, technical assistance and policy development regarding physical activity policies at the local and state level to other communities and interacts with the Nutrition and Physical Activity and Obesity (NPAO) Program staff to ensure physical activity linkages with related program issues, including exercise physiology, transportation options, community development, land use, community interventions, communication campaigns, training and the design and dissemination of education materials. The position works closely on project issues with the NPAO Program; the Division of Public Health (DPH) staff; Departments of Transportation, Natural Resources, and Public Instruction; community-based organizations; local health departments, managed care organizations, health care professional organizations, other state government organizations, and academic institutions; and provides physical activity technical assistance, training, leadership, program coordination, program planning, developmenrt, implementation and evaluation, with a focus on the two CPPW Communities Program grant communities. Special Notes: Wisconsin residency is required for this project position, possession of a Wisconsin Driver’s License and the ability to travel and stay overnight. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of current scientific research-based physical activity concepts, theories, principles and practices of community physical activity; strategic and operational health planning, program implementation and evaluation. Skill in data management; working with multidisciplinary teams; providing technical assistance to a variety of state and community decision-makers; identifying epidemiological, economic and social trends with implications for the health and physical activity status of the population and the ability to translate community assessment data into statewide programs; working as a liaison/facilitator or consultant with a variety of professionals internally and externally to the organization regarding policy or program issues; presenting ideas and information orally and in writing in a clear, concise and persuasive manner. Ability to provide leadership and guide activities of individuals and groups; and communicate clearly and to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the agency and with other agencies and community groups. Master's degree in public health, community development, or health and community policy preferred.
