Salary:
The starting salary is between $51,744 and $56,584 per year,
based on prior experience in the designated discipline, plus
excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 11/10. Due to the
project nature of these positions, they are not represented by a
bargaining unit.

The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Public Health (DPH); Bureau of
Community Health Promotion in Madison currently has a Physical Activity Program
Evaluator and a Communities Program Evaluator.
These are project positions funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009 (ARRA) for a maximum period of two (2) years. These are not permanent
positions.
Job Duties:
These project positions are responsible for developing and implementing
the evaluation measures for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)
Physical Activitym, as well as the Communites grant interventions and implementation
plan, and other activities for the CPPW Program. These positions provide statewide
consultation in assessing and evaluating the quality and effectiveness of CPPW
components and interventions at the local and state level; develop obesity prevention
research summaries to be shared with local programs statewide; evaluate nutrition and
physical activity interventions; provide technical assistance, consultation and
leadership to community level interventions on assessment and evaluation; and
provide training to state staff and local coalitions on evaluation. These positions work
closely with other CPPW staff to fully incorporate meaningful assessment measures
into the Program and evaluate and achieve the goals of the Program. The Evaluation
Coordinators work with the Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity (NPAO) Program
and other program epidemiologists and evaluators to develop evaluation measures
and analyze and interpret data. Both positions are responsible for writing summary
data reports and disseminating them to key stakeholders; interacting with Division of
Public Health (DPH) staff, Department of Public Instruction (DPI), UW Madison faculty,
community-based organizations, local health departments, managed care
organizations, health care professional organizations, other state government
organizations, academic institutions on project issues; and advising on pertinent
nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevention initiatives within DPH and with other
Departments to ensure consistency and coordination.
Special Notes:
Wisconsin residency is required for these project positions,
possession of a Wisconsin Driver’s License and the ability to travel and stay overnight.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, practices,
protocols, objectives, methods, and materials of public health evaluation; impact of
policy and environmental changes; community and population-based nutrition
programs; evaluation application techniques; investigation skills, drafting survey tools,
utilizing population selection techniques, analyzing and evaluating data collection, and
program objectives; scientific methods and techniques for evaluation for program
planning, promotion, and implementation; computerized databases, query
development, analyses, and data interpretation; statistics, analyses, research
methods, and data presentation; microcomputer hardware and applications software
for Windows based platforms; database development and management with specific
applications to health-related fields. Ability to independently implement evaluation
objectives of chronic disease programs; use of statistical methods and computer
applications such as Excel, SAS, Microsoft Access; and communicate and cooperate
with other individuals, organizations, groups, media, using a variety of written and
verbal communication.
