Salary:
The starting salary is between $51,744 and $56,584 per year,
based on prior experience in the designated discipline, plus
excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 11/10. Due to the
project nature of this position, it is not represented by a
bargaining unit.

The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Public Health (DPH); Bureau of
Community Health Promotion in Madison.
This is a project position is funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009 (ARRA) for a maximum period of two (2) years. This is not a permanent
position.
Job Duties:
This project position is responsible for providing health communications
training and technical assistance to the two communities in the Communities Putting
Prevention to Work (CPPW) Program grant. This position serves as the primary
communications contact for La Crosse and Wood Counties as they implement their
CPPW initiatives; provides statewide consultation, technical assistance and policy
development regarding communication strategies policies at the local and state level to
other communities; interacts with the Nutrition and Physical Activity and Obesity
(NPAO) Program staff; and works closely with the NPAO Program; the Division of
Public Health (DPH) staff; the Departments of Public Instruction (DPI) and Agriculture,
Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP); community-based organizations; local
health departments; managed care organizations; health care professional
organizations; other state government organizations; and academic institutions on
project issues. This position integrates health communication components; reviews
background information; sets communication objectives; analyzes and segments target
populations; identifies message concepts; pretests messages to specific audiences;
selects communication channels; creates messages and materials; conducts the
appropriate pre-testing; develops promotion plans, implements communication
strategies, assesses effects; and obtains feedback about health communication
messages. This position will develop successful obesity prevention health messages,
prepare media and health communication plans, research cultural competence of
various messages, coordinate technical assistance and training about media advocacy
and public relations, and will be the media and counter-marketing expert addressing
obesity prevention issues.
Special Notes:
Wisconsin residency is required for this project position, possession
of a Wisconsin Driver’s License and the ability to travel and stay overnight.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of health communication, including
setting communication objectives, audience segmentation, selection of communication
channels, researching and developing messages, evaluating effectiveness of health
messages; methods and techniques of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and
presenting data and information. Ability to work with media, marketing and public
relations professionals; work independently and effectively under general supervision;
work concurrently on multiple tasks, projects and assignments; skill in establishing and
maintaining working relationships with individuals and groups of diverse interests; and
excellent written and oral communication skills.
Master's degree in Communications, journalism, English or related field
preferred.
