The Citizen Science Center (CSC) mission connects people with nature to carry out scientific research and promote environmental stewardship. The CSC achieves this mission by partnering with government agencies, universities, non-profit organizations and research facilities. Through grants, contracts and collaborations the Citizen Science Center conducts projects consisting of habitat and ecosystem management, aquatic and terrestrial species. Projects have included but are not limited to solitary bees, cavity nesting birds, fresh water mussels, plants, streams, bats, small mammals, bird banding, butterflies and writing lake, aquatic plant, and invasive species management plans. As the CSC projects are grant or contract funded projects change on an annual/biannual basis. This position requires flexibility, is extremely diverse, and has room to advance in responsibilities, hours and wage.
General Description & Responsibilities: This position is funded through soft money and is part-time, but is expected to increase in hours quickly.
The Citizen Science Technician position will assist the CSC Director in soliciting, organizing and completing research projects. Network and foster relationships with government agencies, businesses, civic organizations, and universities. Assist in fundraising and grant writing. Work with CSC Director and Beaver
Creek’s bookkeeper to monitor and keep budgets current. Write final reports, create scientific posters, and design presentations. Gather, compile and analyze data. Create maps using GIS.
Conduct presentations and trainings to lake associations, volunteer organizations, schools and universities, and at meetings/conferences. Attend events promoting the CSC. Design naturebased education for pre-school children. Recruit and work with volunteers / citizen scientists through involvement in workshops, trainings, and events. Act as a mentor and resource assistant to students, citizen scientist, LTE staff and the public. Assist in the day to day operation of the
Citizen Science Center including staff meetings, public relations, marketing, and maintaining a respectable building appearance.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities: B.S. in science or environmental field.
Self-starter.
Demonstrated experience in a natural resource or environmental position.
Knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Ability to orienteer with a map and GPS unit.
Ability to create maps using GIS.
Evidence of strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
Ability to work effectively with volunteers of all ages.
Flexible.

Excellent organization skills.
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Comfortable working on/in the water and in remote places.
Requires ability to work with little supervision.

Possess a current driver’s license and vehicle.
Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:
Two years of experience in a natural resource or environmental position.
Experience hauling, launching and operating motorized and non-motorized watercraft.
Experience working with youth.
Identification skills with a wide variety of taxa including aquatic/terrestrial plants, birds, small mammals and invertebrates.
Knowledge of terrestrial/aquatic invasive species.
Prior experience in grant writing and management.
Managing volunteers of staff.
Experience working with budgets.
Comfortable in public speaking.
