Be a natural born citizen of the United States. Must have been a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years. Technically, the rule is that a person has to be born in the United States as a citizen, but there are questions about that even! This applies to at any point in a person’s life --- not necessarily fourteen straight years. Must be at least 35 years of age. It is possible to serve ten years in office if you take over for a President that dies while in office, but he must be at least halfway through his term or it counts as full term. A President may serve a maximum of two full terms in office. Each term consists of four years. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution happened in 1951 after Franklin Roosevelt won four terms --- it limits the President to two terms George Washington set the precedent at two terms, because he did not want people to view him as a King or permanent figure.
