Late paper (item 10.2 Coursework Course Accreditation Procedures) was sent to members on Tuesday 12 May. 2. There were two tabled papers: a. Memo and Notice of Planning discussed under Item 6 - Course Approval Process and Course Accreditation Management (CAM) Project (document attached pp. 7). b. Transitioning Monash Malaysia courses for Course Architecture Compliance discussed under Item 7 - Transition of Malaysian Portfolio to Course Architecture Compliance (document attached pp.17). The Committee agreed that all items on the agenda not starred be adopted without discussion, and that the actions recommended be taken or the information therein noted. 3 Minutes 3.1 The Minutes of Meeting 2/2015 of the Coursework Admissions and Programs Committee, held on 1 April 2015, were confirmed. 4 Matters arising from the minutes of previous meeting 4.1 The Committee noted the updated schedule of action items. 5 Chair’s Business Subsumed into agenda items 6 and 7. S:\ADM\ES\Coursework Admissions & Programs Committee (CAPC)\Minutes\2015\03-2015-Capc-MinutesConfirmed.Docx Page 1 CAPC Minutes 3/2015 6 Course Approval Process and Course Accreditation Management (CAM) Project Professor Sue Willis reported on the following: - The Course Accreditation Management (CAM) replaced Curriculum Approval and Publication System (CAPS) which was wound back. The CAM project aims to simplify the course approval process and to utilise a technology-based process to move documents and to keep long term records of course accreditation status, changes and reviews. - Professor Willis explained the new course approval templates. The memo and notice of planning document is the coversheet. - If a course/major/specialisation is offered on the Malaysian campus, it will need to demonstrate consistency with the Malaysian Qualification Framework. - Compliance documents have been simplified. - Business cases to be reviewed by Provost or Vice-Provost (Graduate Education). CAPC is responsible for signing off on management and governance. - Committee members were encouraged to start using the new course approval templates, and to provide comments/feedback to Professor Willis. 7 Transition of Malaysian Portfolio to Course Architecture Compliance Members noted that: - Eight courses are to be transitioned to the Course Architecture compliant portfolio and are recommended under 8.2 for transmission to Academic Board for approval. - One course was transitioned in 2014 as course architecture compliant. The edited academic course description is recommended under 8.3 for forwarding to Academic Board for noting as the ground zero 2015 version. - Four courses were transitioned in 2014/15 and the 2015 ground zero version already noted by Academic Board along with the Australian campus portfolio at meeting 1/2015. They require no action on the part of CAPC. - One course was transitioned in 2014 as course architecture compliant. The edited academic course description will be brought to CAPC 4/2015 for forwarding to Academic Board for noting as the ground zero 2015 version. - The remaining courses will transition later in 2015. This includes 'end-on' honours courses which will transition with the Australian based courses. - On behalf of the Committee, the Chair acknowledged colleagues in Malaysia for their work on getting the Malaysian Portfolio Course Architecture compliant for roll-out in 2016. The Malaysian campus completed this whilst also being audited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. Existing Course Title Bachelor of Psychological Science New Course Title Managing Faculty Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences The Committee noted and is to forward to Academic Board for noting, the 2015 ground zero version of the Bachelor of Psychological Science. 8.4 Course Amendment for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Laws (MBBS/LLB) Coursework Admissions and Programs Committee endorsed the course amendment proposal for transmission to Academic Board. Professor Willis suggested discussing the CAM process document at the next meeting. - Professor Ben Canny advised that items can be approved by the steering committee outside of Academic Board, if the Chair of Academic Board believes that it is urgent. - The Chair of CAPC to determine the necessary level of approval, where an interpretation of this policy is required for a particular amendment. - Following discussion of this item, the Guidelines for Approving Course Amendments was sent back to the Policy Unit for further work. For information/action: Ms N Mitchell, Ms M Soederberg. 9.2 Coursework Course Accreditation Procedures - Ms Natalie Mitchell advised that the Course Accreditation Procedures were approved at CAPC meeting 2/2015 but have since been revised, in consultation with Mr Donald Wong. - The revised document sets out the additional requirements for courses to be externally accredited before offered in Malaysia. - The University Policy team is currently developing a course accreditation website and will be using this website to provide information on the Academic Board and Malaysian accreditation processes. - It was suggested that the Solicitors Office review the revised procedures, particularly the wording regarding delegated responsibilities. - Following discussion of this item, the Coursework Course Accreditation Procedures was sent back to the Policy Unit for further work.
