Meeting Minutes Friday, September 18, 2015 12:00pm In Attendance: Michael Cesarano, Anthony Davis, Bryan Farr, Jeanne Galvin, Cheryl Spencer, Monica Trujillo, Denise Ward, Paul Marchese. Not Present: Jeff Jankowski, Ricky Panayoty, Mona Seiler, Lucy Shi, John Talbird 1. Background The purpose of the Mission Review Committee is to evaluate the mission statement of the college as listed in the Middle States Higher Education Commission Standard 1 (see attached). The committee was selected by the constituents of the college and consists of representatives from faculty, students, staff, alumni, and the community. 2. Introductions of committee members present 3. Discussion of proposed course of action • The committee discussed the current Mission Statement. The majority of those present indicated that the present document is too long and could be condensed. • The following questions should be answered in the mission statement: Who we are? What does the college stand for? (Value statement) Who does the college serve? What services does the college provide? • It was the consensus that the group should solicit input from college constituents. The following groups will be surveyed: Faculty, Staff, Community, Students, and Alumni. • Faculty/Staff – an online survey will be developed and implemented. Monica Trujillo, Cheryl Spencer, and Jeanne Galvin will develop the survey with input from the entire committee. • Community – a focus group will be convened. The composition will consist of secondary educators, professionals from local businesses (including healthcare), elected officials, and chamber of commerce representatives. Denise Ward and Paul Marchese will develop an invite list and questions to ask focus group. • Students – Will discuss plan of action with student representatives. Anthony Davis and Ricky Panayoty will lead this effort. • Alumni – A survey was proposed. Bryan Farr and Cheryl Spencer will develop the survey 4. Proposed Timeline October • Develop and finalize survey instruments and questions for focus group • Select individual for focus group. November • Implement surveys • Convene focus groups. Community focus group will coincide with the Perkins Local Advisory Committee meeting, November 19. • Review results December • Present results and get input from College Advisory Planning Committee (CAPC), and College Senate. Dec - Feb • Revise/write mission statement. February • Present preliminary draft of mission statement to college, CAPC, senate for input. March • Revise and finalize document April • Present to CAPC and senate for approval. • Present to college Meeting adjourned at 1:20PM.
