Before meeting 7/2015. 5 Chair’s Business - No report this meeting. 6 Items for Discussion Subsumed into substantive agenda items. 7 Course Proposals - Clarification was sought regarding version control of course proposals on the OVPLT Accreditation Site. An issue was raised that some course proposals were being amended after the CAPC agenda has been sent to members. Professor Willis noted that if a course proposal is updated after the agenda is distributed, the submitter will be asked to clearly explain the changes made in the new version and the Committee Secretary will advise the committee that a new version is available and what changes have been made. - Notice of Planning (NoP) is to foreshadow any problems before the proposal is presented to CAPC. Although there is a latest date for submission of NoPs, this is not the preferred date. It is preferable that NoPs are submitted sufficiently early, that the faculty is aware of any issues that might arise and can address them before submission of the final proposal to CAPC. 7.1 Proposals for New Offerings (Courses, Major, Minor, Specialisation, Partners, Locations) Graduate Diploma of Psychology Advanced (Dr Matthew Mundy) - 100% online. - PSY4407 allows students to see beyond clinical psychology as a pathway and allows students to consider alternative career paths. - Comment was made that care should be taken to alert students that they may be subject to English language requirements required of the profession separate to the University’s requirements. - Comment was made that the course outcomes were very wordy and difficult for students to understand. - There was a potential that this course was in competition with a course in the Faculty of Education. This issue has been resolved as there is a difference in what the courses are trying to do. - The committee recommends that Academic Board accredit the course. Master of Environment and Sustainability (Professor Cristina Varsavsky) - The committee recommends that Academic Board accredit the course. S:\ADM\ES\Coursework Admissions & Programs Committee (CAPC)\Minutes\2015\06-2015-Capc-MinutesConfirmed.Docx Page 2 CAPC Minutes 6/2015 Postgraduate Diploma in Biomedical Science (Professor Iekhsan Othman) - The committee recommends that Academic Board accredit the course. - The committee noted that Monash University will not be able to issue AHEGs to graduates of this course because the award is not recognised in the AQF, although it is in the Malaysian Qualifications Framework. Student Education Business Services to edit this out of all AHEGS statements currently being used and the term will not be used in future. - Professor Evans requested amendments to MNHS courses 2872, 2314 and 2870 on page 23 of the agenda papers. The amendment is as follows: “The faculty has not conducted a review of the three courses but will do so in 2016. Therefore the faculty is seeking an extension of the current accreditation for two one years and will bring back to Academic Board a proposal for re‐accreditation by mid‐2017 at the latest 31 December 2016.” - [Following the meeting, Mr Hiscox noted that M6001 Master of Advanced Health Care Practice had inconsistency in the document relating to the exit award. It is 'Graduate Certificate in Advanced Healthcare Practice' (AHEGS has correct title) but the name under the Exit Award is 'Graduate Certificate of Advanced Healthcare Practice'.] Action Items Item Responsibility Due 2. This item will need to go back to CAPC as a full transitioning proposal when Professor Zlatko Skrbis has approved of this to go forward. 8 Course Accreditation End Dates and Course Review Dates (Professor Sue Willis) - At CAPC meeting 4/2015, the Committee agreed that rather than seeking approval for unit changes affecting course learning outcomes from CAPC, that units be mapped to course learning outcomes at the time of re-accreditation of the course by Academic Board every 5-7 years. - Course architecture doesn’t automatically update the reaccreditation date. - Faculties may now elect to take 2 extra years (total 7 years accreditation). - It was suggested that in future the accreditation date should consistently be aligned to a specific date, for example mid-year or 31 December, rather than at the date that Academic Board approves reaccreditation. CAPC members generally supported this suggestion. Professor Ben Canny and Professor Sue Willis to revise the current document to reflect this in the extended accreditation end dates to be presented to Academic Board 6-2015. Professor Willis will also enquire about whether continuing this practice will require a change to policy or only to procedures. Report back to CAPC meeting 72015. - Malaysia MQA framework requires courses taught at Monash Malaysia to be reviewed every 5 year (as did TEQSA previously). This does not impact on Monash University accreditation timelines, but it does mean that faculties will need to review some courses in less than seven years and they may then seek reaccreditation early.
