SPORTS MANAGEMENT
Course Description:
60 – Sports Management
3 units
Introduction into the field of sports management. Career opportunities, human resource
management, leadership, strategic planning, teamwork, ethics and values, marketing and
advertising, finance, managing facilities, sports and the law, economics of sport and
community impact. 3 hours.
Prerequisite Skills:
None
Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1.
examine career opportunities in sports management;
2.
assess the issues related to liability and risk management;
3.
evaluate the factors related to managing sports facilities;
4.
analyze the components that make up the economic and financial part of sports;
5.
analyze group decision making and problem solving;
6.
explain the relationship between management and athletes;
7.
examine the law and how it relates to professional sports.
