PLAY: MATERIALS AND ENVIRONMENTS
Catalog Description:
64 - Play: Materials and Environments
3 units
Application of principles of human growth and development in the consideration of play
materials and environments for young children. Development and selection of ageappropriate play materials, and environments which foster play. Strongly recommended,
Early Childhood Development 51 (completed with a grade of C or higher). 3 hours.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:
1.
identify play and its importance from birth through age eight;
2.
make, select and use age-appropriate play materials;
3.
guide others in the appropriate use of play materials;
4.
demonstrate an understanding of the influence of the environment on children's
play;
5.
be able to analyze environments in terms of providing for children's play;
6.
be able to plan environments which foster age-appropriate play.
