HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Catalog Description:
21 - Human Resource Management
3 units
Introduction to the management of human resources and an understanding of the impact
and accountability to the organization in terms of human resource activities. Global human
resource strategies, social and organizational realities, legal implications affecting people at
work, union/non-union practices, comparable work, employee compensations, benefits, and
employee rights. 3 hours.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

explain the legal implications and costs of making improper personnel decisions;
describe the laws of employment as enforced by the Federal and State governments

identify the proper procedures to hire, terminate, and discipline employees; namely

explain the importance of policies, rules, and procedures as they apply to employment
and the effects of non-compliance;
discuss and analyze various compensation and benefits packages;
describe the global perspective and future human resource challenges;

a. Compose the workflow design for your current position. Prepare the ideal job
description and specification and compare it to those your company uses for this
position.
b. As a team, compare US Human Resource practices with those in one other
country. Present your findings to the class in a fifteen minute presentation.
c. Choose five job advertisements for the same job category. Compare them based
on the message, effectiveness of graphics, and clarity.
