Chabot College September 1995 Removed Fall 2006 Course Outline for Art 95 COMMERCIAL ART WORK EXPERIENCE EDUCATION Catalog Description: 95 - Commercial Art Work Experience Education May be repeated 3 times 1-2 units College supervised on-the-job training for students working in an occupation related to their major for educational and occupational goals. Training may be either paid or volunteer work experience. Students through the cooperation of their supervisor, contract to accomplish new learning objectives or broadening experiences for each semester enrolled. Strongly recommended: enrollment in any commercial art class. Prerequisite: Corequisite in Work Experience 96. 5-10 hours or more of employment per week. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course the student should: 1. apply and refine those skills learned in the classroom to a job in his or her career field where those skills may be demonstrated; 2. apply one's educational ability, level of maturity, personality, behavior and attitudes toward a job and to inter-personal relationships, and identify those areas where changes may be required; 3. relate work experience education to the courses being taken and other courses offered at the college; 4. appreciate the importance of continuing education as it applies to current employment or advancement and retraining needs as they apply to future career satisfaction; 5. develop an understanding of career opportunities, job requirements, employer expectations, and promotional requirements, in an occupational setting; 6. become more employable by assessing personal goals, needs and making a concerted effort towards self-improvement. Course Content: 1. Concept of "Management by Objectives"--goal setting 2. Students are expected to meet with their instructor and work supervisor to determine new activities, learning opportunities or experiences which will broaden their knowledge of their job. 3. Each learning objective will be approved by the college instructor. During the semester, the instructor will visit the student's work site to discuss with the supervisor the quality and importance of each objective, level of accomplishment, and personal development of the student. Methods of Presentation: Individual consultation with students and employers Methods of Evaluating Student Progress: 1. Level of accomplishment on each learning objective 2. The quality and contribution of each objective 3. Discussions with the student's employer 4. Instructor's appraisal of student progress 5.
