Minutes for Meeting of November 7, 2011
A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, November 7 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 40.
Committee members present were: Ken Baake, Erin Collopy, Nelson Dometrius, David Lamp, Philip
Pope, and David Roach. Presenters: Drs. McBee, Calkins, and Hill (History), Drs. Pearce and Iyer
(Mathematics and Statistics), Dr. Glab (Physics), and Drs. Edwards, Bains, and Price (Classical &
Modern Languages & Literatures).
1. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration
the following proposals from the Department of History:
Add HIST 3357 International Radical Movements.
Add HIST 4330 The History of Lynching.
2. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration
the following proposals from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics:
Add MATH 5099 Individual Study.
Change activity type for MATH 5399 Advanced Problems.
3. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals
from the Department of Physics:
Add PHYS 1171 Physics Fieldwork.
Add PHYS 4371 Physics As It Is Taught.
Add PHYS 4372 Astronomy As It Is Taught.
Pending minor revisions, add PHYS 4373 Math Modeling in Physics.
Add PHYS 5374 Physics Research Methods.
Change activity type for ASTR 2401 Observational Astronomy.
Add ASTR 4301 Astrophysics I.
Add ASTR 4302 Astrophysics II.
4. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration
the following proposals from the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures):
Add FREN 3306 Business French.
Add FREN 4305 Cultures of French Speaking World.
Add FREN 4308 French Culture through Film.
5. Information Item: The Modern Conflict, Diplomacy, and Reconciliation program and the MCDR
courses have been moved from the Provost’s Office (UN, Interdisciplinary) into the Department
of Political Science (in the College of Arts and Sciences).
The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, November 14, for proposals
that reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, November 7. Please note: Starting this
semester, ASCAP will begin accepting hard or electronic copies of course proposal submissions.
