College of Arts and Sciences Committee on Academic Programs (ASCAP)

Minutes for Meeting of September 13, 2010

A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, September 13 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129.

Committee members present were: Lee Cohen, Erin Collopy, Jerry Koch, David Lamp, Chris Monico,

Philip Pope, Rich Rice, and David Roach. Presenters were: Roger Lichti (Physics), Howard Curzer

(Philosophy), Melanie Hart and John Miller (Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences), and Tina Harris

(Asian Studies).

1.

The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Physics:

Add PHYS 2305 Computation in the Physical Sciences to the list of core courses that fulfill the Technology and Applied Science requirement.

2.

The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Philosophy:

Add PHIL 4125 Introduction to Research Ethics.

3.

The following proposal from Mathematics and Statistics was tabled until the proposal can be presented to the committee by a departmental representative:

Add MATH 5317 Introduction to Modern Algebra.

4.

The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences:

Change Description and Hours for ESS 3318 Exercise Sport Psychology

Change Description and Hours for ESS 3321 First Aid.

5.

The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences:

Nonsubstantive Dual-Degree Program Request: JD/MS in Exercise and Sport Sciences.

6.

Course changes in Asian Studies were shared with the committee.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, September 27, for proposals that reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, September 20.
