The Center affirms that the encounter between Judaism and Christianity can be a vital, loving and living one and embraces the mission of developing educational programs that explore the intersection of spirituality and the arts. The Emmanuel Center will be formally inaugurated with a very special event on Sunday, November 16 at 4:00 p.m. James Carroll will join us for a conversation about his major book and new documentary film, Constantine's Sword. Many people have read this powerful confrontation with the tragic encounter between Judaism and Christianity through the ages, and have seen the new film that portrays Jim's personal journey in reflecting on these transcendent issues. The film will be screened at Emmanuel on Saturday evening, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. and prior to the program on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. For further information, please contact Boston Jewish Spirit: www.bostonjewishspirit.org (617-262-1202) or Emmanuel Church: www.emmanuel-boston.org (617-536-3355). This is an opportunity to discuss and reflect with fellow parishioners on issues relevant to being a Catholic in today's world. Frequently the conversation focuses on the readings and homilies from the day's liturgies—at least as a starter. Fr. J.A. AND “GREAT PUMPKIN” ON THE MOVE – On the Wednesday before Halloween, Carol Choir and I (Mr. Z) took our Great Pumpkin Carols on tour to the Providence House Assisted Living Residence in Brookline. After rehearsal and a pizza party, we journeyed, accompanied (literally) by our own Susan Moran to serenade a large group of residents and staff members. Among the celebrities with us that night were Lady John (wife of Sir Elton) and a famous walking box of popcorn. After our program of seasonal favorites and church anthems the choir sings, we were treated to a spooktacular reception given by the staff and residents, who made charming Halloween favors for choir members. All had a devil of a good time. Thanks, as ever, to the parents for their help and supports.
