This publication lists positions for which applications are currently being accepted. Applications may be obtained at the Human
Resources Office or the local Employment Security Commission. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00
am to 5:00 pm (except holidays). Applications received after the closing date will NOT be accepted. As a condition of
employment, individuals hired by the County are required to present proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United
States before they can begin work. Male applicants between the ages of 18 and 26 are required by State Law to certify that
they have registered for Military Service. To insure the County’s commitment to serve its citizens as efficiently as possible,

Job Description
Major duties include: cover switchboard during specified hours each day; Assist in interviewing
Success Express and Nonpublic Assistance clients; Case research and search for birth certificates;
Receive and work RWRs (public assistance referrals for services); Ability to navigate the automated
computer system and research cases to determine appropriate processing; Provide clientele information
to assist with genetic testing; Serve as back-up to either Processing Assistant III in their absence;
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Significant knowledge of office work or work unit procedures, methods, and practices. Significant
knowledge of and ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, spelling and office terminology to
compose and/or proofread correspondence, reports and other materials. Significant knowledge of
accounting procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment. Ability to learn
and independently apply laws and departmental rules and regulations covering programs and services.

Ability to review and process information to determine conclusions, actions or compliance with
applicable laws, rules or regulations. Ability to apply a variety of work-related formulas or
mathematical calculations. Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data.
Ability to independently work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties
that may be sensitive in nature. Ability to resolve problem situations, answer inquiries and questions
independently, and be resourceful in gathering, giving, and explaining information. Ability to deal with
the public in a professional and friendly manner. Ability to apply established departmental procedures
to a variety of work situations. This position requires the ability to produce high quality results under
pressure of tight time frames.
Minimum Education & Experience
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained
through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of
training and experience.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of reaching, stooping, standing,
walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform sedentary work which includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move
objects, including the human body.
Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting functions,
operate typewriter or computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy, neatness,
and thoroughness of the work assigned.

apply must submit an Employee Transfer Request along with completed County Application form to
the Cleveland County Human Resources Office by the closing date.
NOTE: All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and
client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as
required and may be required to staff shelters overnight. This position is also required to maintain a
valid driver’s license with good driving record and reliable transportation.
