This publication lists positions for which applications are currently being accepted. Applications may be obtained at the Human
Resources Office or the local Employment Security Commission. Applications are accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00
am to 5:00 pm (except holidays). Applications received after the closing date will NOT be accepted. As a condition of
employment, individuals hired by the County are required to present proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United
States before they can begin work. Male applicants between the ages of 18 and 26 are required by State Law to certify that

Job Description
The primary function of this position is to provide clerical support to the Income Maintenance
Division, which includes File Room Clerk duties such as Filing, Processing Mail, Data Entry,
Copying, Faxing, Switchboard and Reception back-up, and other miscellaneous support duties as
assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum Education & Experience
Completion of high school and one year of experience in clerical work, preferably including
reception and/or switchboard. Completed training in an accredited college, university, or business
school may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to resolve problem situations, answer inquiries and questions independently, and be
resourceful in gathering, giving, and explaining information. Ability to deal with the public in a
professional and friendly manner. Considerable knowledge of vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and
of office practices and procedures. Ability to maintain clerical records and to compile reports from
these records. Ability to read and compare words and figures carefully and accurately. Ability to
apply established departmental procedures to a variety of work situations. This position requires
the ability to produce high quality results under pressure of tight time frames. The ability to speak
Spanish is a desired qualification.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life support functions of reaching, stooping, standing,
walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform sedentary work which includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force
occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull,
or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must have the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting functions,
operate typewriter or computer terminal, do extensive reading and determine the accuracy,
neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
Application Process
All applicants must be screened through the local Employment Security Commission, including
completion of typing test (25 correct wpm), along with County Application.
Any County employee wishing to apply must submit an Employee Transfer Request, along with
completed County Application form to the Cleveland County Human Resources Office. Internal
applicants must have a typing score of 25 correct wpm or above to be considered.
Selection will be based on relevant work experience and structured interview.
NOTE: All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client
population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and
may be required to staff shelters overnight.
