Dear Parishioners,
I wanted to let you know how your parish church became a sanctuary on Marathon day for many, many
runners who were not able to finish the Marathon because of the horrific explosions at the finish line that
caused unimaginable harm to so many spectators, runners and the Marathon itself.
I walked over to celebrate the 5:30 Mass not knowing that the church had become a staging place for
those runners who could not continue the race. Everywhere I looked there were runners enveloped in
the silver thermal wraps that are used for the end of the race. Food, Gatorade and even apples in the
collection baskets were being passed out to give the runners the physical sustenance they needed.
As I looked at the beautiful image of the Crucified Christ with the Resurrection cloth draped over it, I
thought my heart would break. Once again the pain and the suffering of the world that Christ has taken
on himself was real and present, not only in the runners who were bewildered by their unexpected
presence in St. Ignatius Church, but in the pain of all those who were immediately affected by this
senseless act of violence.
I know that your thoughts and prayers are with all those who have lost their lives and those who have
been injured. Last Monday I saw our beloved and beautiful St. Ignatius Church embracing all those who
crossed her threshold. I would like to think that this was the embrace of the Crucified and Risen One
whose suffering is ultimately transformed into victory. On this Good Shepherd Sunday, I pray that
Christ, the Good Shepherd, will bring healing to our world that is so very much in need of his Peace.
In the Love of the Risen Lord,
Fr. Bob

I want to let you know about the well-being of our brother Jesuit, Fr. Ken Loftus. As many of you know,
Fr. Ken has been experiencing significant health issues that have been challenging for him, and all of us
who care about him, for some time. Fr. Ken and Fr. Myles Sheehan, SJ, our provincial and a physician
himself, have both decided that Ken would benefit from a medical leave, to enable him to get a clear
understanding of his medical issues as well as receive the best treatment available. Ken left on Thursday
morning, and we expect that he will be away from the parish for some time. In the interim, he asks that
you keep him in your prayers. We will all be praying for Ken's healing, and I will try to keep you
informed about his progress and well-being.

GOOD CAUSES
From time to time we receive a request from a parishioner or a BC student to advertise a “good cause” for
which one is looking for financial or other kinds of support. This can take the form of a bake sale whose
proceeds go to an immersion trip or some form of collection. Since we do not want to overwhelm our
parishioners with “asks”, we have decided to add this “Good Causes” section that will give you the
opportunity to decide whether you would like to support this good cause.
Parishioner and Cantor, Michelle Abadia whose artistry St. Ignatius has benefited from for many years, is
asking support for a national tour which will give her the opportunity to share her musical gifts with a
wider audience. If you’d like to learn more about Michelle’s hopes and dreams, you can go to the

TRUTH AND JUSTICE FOR EL SALVADOR’S DISAPPEARED.
The Salvadoran Civil War claimed the lives of thousands of innocent children, women, and men. Many of
these civilians were kidnapped, tortured, and murdered without any official recognition or record, today
they are referred to as the “Disappeared”.
To this day, tens of thousands of family members of the Disappeared still do not know what happened to
their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters.
SHARE invites you to meet Marina Ortiz and Patricia Garcia of the Pro-Historical Memory
Commission and Bethany Loberg of SHARE at St. Ignatius Upper Church on April 24 at 6:30
pm. Marina was disappeared as a child and Patricia was disappeared and tortured twice during the civil
war. Both have family members who were disappeared and have worked for truth and justice since their
adolescence.

Queridos Parroquianos,
Padre Bob
