LentIsOnItsWay
Each year, on the last Sunday before Lent, we burn the palm
branches blessed on the prior Palm Sunday, to be used at the
services on Ash Wednesday. On the weekends of January 30 and
31 and February 6 and 7, there will be baskets at the entrances of
the church for you to place these branches, so that they can be
gathered up and burned before the 5:30 Liturgy on February 7th.
You are also welcome to join us for a brief prayer service on the
front steps of the church at 5:10 p.m. before the palms are committed to the flames.

ThankYou-Merci-Danke-Gracias
I write to express appreciation to all who hosted Westminster
Choir members, ushered, and helped in other ways, for the
choir's recent visit and concert. It was an extraordinary event. All
the generous help contributed to making it so.
Thanks, as well, to all who attended, and supported the program. The spirit and kindness are hallmarks of the parish community here.
God bless you in this New Year,
Timothy Zimmerman

SingintheNewYear
Why did I ever stop singing? It was so much fun, there was such
a great spirit, I loved making
beautiful music with others, I
needed to express my faith
through song, it was how I
prayed, I had a great sense of
accomplishment and fulfillment,
it helped my breathing and general sense of well being, singing
brought me closer to God.
Sound familiar? Maybe it’s time to re-engage and join one of our
liturgical singing groups. The 10:00 am choir began rehearsing
again on Wed., Jan 13th at 7:15. The Latino Coro began on
Thursday, Jan. 14th at 7:15 and the 5:30 ensemble continues on
Sunday afternoons at 4:30. All of these groups are welcoming in
new members, so contact Michael Burgo if you are interested in
reigniting your singing voice and meeting new friends.
If interested, please contact Michael Burgo at Burgo@bc.edu,
617 552 6108. More info can be found at our website or on the
church bulletin boards.

The whole community of St. Ignatius welcomes these RCIA Inquirers into the more intentional period of the RCIA Catechumenate: Deborah Lovett, Vannepha Luangaphay, Jenny Miller
and Yi Zhang. We also warmly invite Ryan Brenneman and Amy
Moolten who entered into full communion within the Catholic
Church last weekend. Every Sunday during the 5:30 pm Mass,
the Catechumens will be dismissed to reflect more deeply on the
scriptures and on what it means to be a Catholic Christian.
Find out what the Church does to help refugees: globally, nationally, in Massachusetts and here at St. Ignatius . A brief
presentation will be accompanied by a screening of short films
from the UN High Commission on Refugees.
This awakening process will focus on developing a relationship
with God through Jesus Christ. They will be exposed to various
types of prayer and rituals, ways to reflection on the Word of
God and understand Church teachings, and participate in our
parish activities and service to the Boston community.
BookDiscussion
On Sunday, February 7,there will be a discussion of the book The
Preaching of Pope Francis: Missionary Discipleship and the Ministry of the Word by Gregory Heille, O.P. As Professor of Theology and author Mary Catherine Hilkert states, “The joy of the
Gospel and its power to transform hearts and history shine forth
in Greg Heille’s astute analysis of the preaching of Pope Francis.
Heille’s own fidelity to preaching the Word in season and out of
season is clear as he highlights the call of Papa Francesco to all
baptized Christians to embrace the vocation of missionary disciples.” Please join the discussion of this book on February 7 at
11:15 am in the parish office.

LentenProgramwithMarshaMirkin
On February 20, Marsha Mirkin will once again be with us from
10:00 -noon in the Lannon Chapel. We will study together the
first chapter of the Book of Ruth, a story of the times when we
might be unable to experience the caring that surrounds us and
the resulting cutoff from the community as well as the unexpected, impossible to explain, loving kindness of God. Through
the story, we will explore the transformative power of devoted
relationships that support us as we begin the road toward healing. We start with a cautionary tale about responses to life’s challenges and move to the moment when a person can accept another’s caring and begin to thrive. Please join us for this story of
an amazing journey which mirrors our own.

OrdinaryTime,Scripture
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit,
and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.
He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up,
and went according to his custom
into the synagogue on the sabbath day.
He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah.
He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.
Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down,
and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
He said to them,
“Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”

ElTiempoOrdinario,Escritura
Entonces comenzó a
Reflection
Jesus returns to his hometown where he gives his “inaugural”
speech, so to speak. He has a clear sense of his mission. His experience of his baptism and his desert time have given him a sense
of his purpose. He does not know what lies ahead but he is
committed to following the guidance of the Spirit so that he can
fulfill the Father’s desires for him.
TheLifeofIgnatius
Since Ignatius realized that it was not God’s will for him to remain in Jerusalem he decided to return home to his home country. He knew if he wanted to “save souls” he would have to get
more formal education. At the age of 33 he spent two years in a
classroom with school children. Although he did not know
clearly how God’s spirit was working in him, he knew what he
had to do to begin to fulfill the mission he had received through
the graces of the Spiritual Exercises.
LaVidaIgnaciana
Aunque no sabe exactamente
QuestionforReflection
Do you have a good sense of your “mission” in life? Do you reflect often on the reason and purpose of your human existence?
Do you have a sense of God’s design for you and your life? How
