Book Discussion
On Sunday, May 22 at 11:15 am, there will be a discussion of the
book Stories from the Shadows: Reflections of a Street Doctor by James J. O'Connell. Boston Globe columnist Thomas Farragher describes this book as “a remarkable collection of raw and
real tales about Dr. O’Connell’s homeless patients and the stories
they’ve entrusted to him.” Another reviewer calls this book “one
of the best books about homeless Americans that has ever been
published. Dr. O’Connell sounds a wakeup call that pricks the
conscience: Am I my brother’s keeper?" Please join our discussion of this book on May 22 in the Parish Office.

Help Wanted!
During the weekend of May 14-15, 2016, we will come together
as a community after every Mass to celebrate the start of a new
journey for Fr. Bob and Fr. J.A. under the big tent on the lawn.
We are looking for volunteers that would like to help with the set
up, running and cleaning up for this event. Set up will take place
on Saturday morning and take down will take place on Sunday
after the reception, following the 5:30 Mass. Many hands are
needed for the receptions after each Mass, both on Saturday and
Sunday, to prepare and serve food and beverages and to keep the
receptions lively. If you can help, please contact Catherine
Downing at 617-782-5812 or sending an email to her at
cfdesq@hotmail.com.

A Report from the Pastoral Transition Team
Dear Friends,
Fr. Joe Costantino will become our new pastor on June 1, 2016.
Over the past several months he has maintained a busy schedule
on sabbatical, including leading retreats in places such as Cuba
and the Philippines. In mid-February he visited St. Ignatius and
was able to spend time with several parish groups and learn
more about his soon-to-be new home and its close neighbor,
Boston College.
During this time, Fr. Joe’s had the chance to meet with Fr. Bob,
the entire pastoral staff at St. Ignatius, Fr. Leahy, President of
BC, Fr. Bob Keane, Rector of the Jesuit Community at BC, Fr.
Mark Massa, Dean of the School of Theology and Ministry at BC,
Fr. Tony Penna, Director of Campus Ministry and Fr. John Sassani, Pastor of Our Lady’s and Sacred Heart in Newton. He also
attended a day long Parish Council meeting, choir rehearsal and
Lenten Taize Prayer as well as several weekend Masses.
For more information on Fr. Joe’s time here, visit:
www.bc.edu/bc_org/prs/stign/doc/PPCNotes22016.pdf.
Yours in Christ,
The Transition Team

Catholic Appeal Update
May 1 - Sixth Sunday of Easter
The initial response to the 2016 Catholic Appeal has been enthusiastic—thank you. To date, we have raised 94% of our goal of
$78,990.
Growing pains. Today we hear more about the growing pains of
the early Church. The Apostles were doing something that had
never been done before, building a community of believers in
Jesus Christ, Son of God. There were bound to be
misunderstandings and differences of opinion. Today, the
Church of Boston is doing something new: bringing parishes
together under one pastor and leadership team, to focus on
spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ – evangelization. Jesus’
words in today’s Gospel sustained the early Church, and us
today: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” The Holy
Spirit – the Advocate – is still with us.
If you have not yet had a chance to respond, please make a
pledge today and help us reach our goal by June 30. Your pledge
can be paid in monthly installments through January 31, 2017.
Pledge cards are available at the back of the church and in the
pews. Thank you for all those who have made a gift.

Sunday readings, beach trips, and other activities as desired by

Welcome to Our New Catholic – Bethany Augustoni
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) group is pleased to
announce the baptism this Sunday of our newest Catholic Christian, Bethany Augustoni. Bethany comes from Vermont, was
raised in a Catholic family and has now made her own choice to
be baptized. We celebrate with the Augustoni family the beautiful spirit and commitment that Bethany has shown to her family,
to those in need, and to her life-long journey in faith. Thanks, in
particular, to Lena Augustoni Canas, Bethany's Great Aunt, who
has served as a faithful witness for how one is called to live an
active Christian faith.

From Advent to Pentecost, A Journey with St. Ignatius

Easter Season
La Pascua
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love them,
and we will come to them and make our dwelling with them.
“I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you.
Reflection
As we reflect on Ignatius’ Contemplation for Attaining Divine
Love, we are invited to remember that God is a trinity of persons
bound together in Love. We cannot speak of God’s love for us
without realizing that God gifts us as the one who creates us, the
one who redeems us and the one who sustains us in life and holiness.
The Life of Ignatius
In the fourth week of the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius gives us the
“Contemplation on Attaining Divine Love”. This is the high
point of the Exercises and sums up all that has gone before. Here
is his first reflection
God creates me out of love which desires nothing more than a
return of love on my part. So much does God love me that even
if I take myself from God, God continues to be my Savior and
Redeemer. All my natural abilities and gifts are so many signs of
how much God shares with me.
Questions for Reflection
Do I experience myself as gift from God? Do I allow my talents
and abilities be a reflection of God’s love for me?
Video Reflection, For the Greater Glory
As you reflect on this question, you are invited to review For The
Greater Glory, the dance/theater piece on the Spiritual Exercises, created by Fr. Bob. View the Fourth Week of the Exercises. 1
hour and 10 minute mark.
You can access the video at www.blde.org or
