Catholic Appeal Update May 1 - Sixth Sunday of Easter The initial response to the 2016 Catholic Appeal has been enthusiastic—thank you. To date, we have raised 94% of our goal of $78,990. Growing pains. Today we hear more about the growing pains of the early Church. The Apostles were doing something that had never been done before, building a community of believers in Jesus Christ, Son of God. There were bound to be misunderstandings and differences of opinion. Today, the Church of Boston is doing something new: bringing parishes together under one pastor and leadership team, to focus on spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ – evangelization. Jesus’ words in today’s Gospel sustained the early Church, and us today: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” The Holy Spirit – the Advocate – is still with us. If you have not yet had a chance to respond, please make a pledge today and help us reach our goal by June 30. Your pledge can be paid in monthly installments through January 31, 2017. Pledge cards are available at the back of the church and in the pews. Thank you for all those who have made a gift. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Reflection As we reflect on Ignatius’ Contemplation for Attaining Divine Love, we are invited to remember that God is a trinity of persons bound together in Love. We cannot speak of God’s love for us without realizing that God gifts us as the one who creates us, the one who redeems us and the one who sustains us in life and holiness. The Life of Ignatius In the fourth week of the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius gives us the “Contemplation on Attaining Divine Love”. This is the high point of the Exercises and sums up all that has gone before. Here is his first reflection God creates me out of love which desires nothing more than a return of love on my part. So much does God love me that even if I take myself from God, God continues to be my Savior and Redeemer. All my natural abilities and gifts are so many signs of how much God shares with me. Questions for Reflection Do I experience myself as gift from God? Do I allow my talents and abilities be a reflection of God’s love for me? Video Reflection, For the Greater Glory As you reflect on this question, you are invited to review For The Greater Glory, the dance/theater piece on the Spiritual Exercises, created by Fr. Bob. View the Fourth Week of the Exercises. 1 hour and 10 minute mark. You can access the video at www.blde.org or americamedia.org/ignatian-dance L En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “El que me ama, cumplirá mi palabra y mi Padre lo amará y vendremos a él y haremos en él nuestra morada.
