Meeting Notes: Agenda: Introduction of new members Intent workgroup Unusual action codes for the system Web site http://www.sbctc.edu/college/d_data-governance.aspx Notes: Introduction of new members, Marshall Sampson, HRMC, Green River Joe Duggan, RPC, Edmonds Alison Stevens, WSSSC, Everett With the change in membership we have representation from ten colleges plus SBCTC. Carmen provided an overview of the Intent workgroup. There are intent codes for students in SMS. These are also in the SBCTC Data Warehouse. The titles are short, not very descriptive, and not the same between both sets of codes. The workgroup has made a proposal for new titles with extra descriptions. This project is not designed to change codes. These are the basic definitions. By the next meeting there should be final recommendations to review. K – recommending for retirement (child and family studies) Retire C (basic ed) and E (Dev ed) and X (undecided) D will be exclusively basic skills students. A academic non-transfer degree program B academic transfer program D Basic Education for adults F Professional/Technical Program Applicant (preparatory coursework only) G – see insert below. There was discussion and work on this definition. 2 DGC Meeting 10/15/2015 I Applied Baccalaureate Program (after they earn their 2 year degree) J Upgrading Job Skills K Child and Family Studies Courses - could they just be L non-award seeking students - agreed to recommend that it move to L L Non-award seeking student (including non-award seeking Running Start) M Multiple Programs – see below W Exclusive Continuing Education – they are L intent also – but this allows us to differentiate the two groups. X Undecided – retire Unusual action codes – student parents. Childcare Center Directors talked with Susan Maxwell about the best way for them to document who their student parents are. Susan requested a statewide UA code that colleges could apply if they wanted to. This allows the campus researchers to have one way of identifying this population, and SBCTC can also identify this group. David Prince indicated he would be willing to work with a group from RPC to do some analysis of this population’s success. This is not a mandatory code. It is up to each Childcare Center Director to work with their Registrar on a process of coding these students. Many have started this coding work this fall. The UA code is “P&” and Carmen will create a student group in PeopleSoft. Prior DOC students – discussed creating a new UA code so we can track them. DGC discussed concerns about making this data available to anyone with access to unusual action screens. Is there a need for this that outweighs student privacy concerns? Carmen will look into this some more and come back with a proposal. Web page will be updated with what we are currently working on. Data Governors to do: No action at this time. 3 DGC Meeting 10/15/2015
