This position provides professional social work in Child Protective Services, responding to inquiries, and interviewing and assessing the need for intervention and/or other community services. Provides adoption services for children in DSS custody. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Receives and records Child Protective Services referrals and forwards to the supervisor for review and assignment; screens referrals and makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding acceptance or non-acceptance for investigation. Determines the risk of the child and recommends a priority rating and category of referral ensuring urgent situations are responded to immediately; routes information to appropriate personnel as required by law and/or departmental policy; provides crisis intervention. Maintains regular contact with the child and placement provider; provides referrals for other services; provides counseling, assesses home and school adjustment; and ensures the medical and emotional needs are met while selection of adoptive parent(s) is in progress; identifies and selects appropriate adoption resources; maintains current documentation at all times. Prepares court reports and Permanency Planning reviews. Completes and files foster home licensing applications and adoption documents. Consults with professionals, to ensure the completion of a comprehensive assessment of the child's needs, and includes a strategy for meeting those needs in the child's out-of-home service plan. Prepares and/or processes various records and reports. Performs an extensive background investigation and observation of foster and adoptive parent(s); interviews, evaluates and documents. Confers and assists co-workers, as needed. Facilitates orientation for prospective foster/adoptive parent(s) and works toward recruitment, training and licensing of future foster/adoptive parent(s). Adheres to the department's safety rules and regulations. Performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Features of the Position An employee in this position provides professional social work by responding to inquiries, interviewing and assessing the need for intervention, making referrals to other community services, recruiting, training and assessing an individual or family's ability to serve as an adoptive parent(s), transitioning children from foster care to permanent adoptive homes, assisting in the adoption application process, regularly maintaining case records with documentation, reporting on the child's progress toward permanence and provides documents to Court. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Social Work Supervisor. Education and Experience Master's Degree in Social Work or a related advanced degree with 0 to 1 year experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with 2 years' experience; or Bachelor's Degree in another field with 4 years' direct experience. Licenses and Certifications Valid North Carolina Driver License.
