Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Must possess the ability to effectively work with children who have experienced trauma. * This is a safety sensitive position and participation in the Drug and Alcohol Program is required. Maintains monthly face-to-face contacts with child and placement provider; provides support and feedback to child and family regarding other services; documents all contacts in case record. Prepares comprehensive assessments of adoptive parent applicants to determine ability to serve as adoptive parents based on background history, parenting experience, criminal record checks, and other related information. Plans, schedules, assists, and/or co-facilitates a thirty hour training program for prospective foster and adoptive parents. Facilitates after hours orientations for prospective foster / adoptive applicants. Prepares court summaries and legal documents as required. Work with children in DSS custody to achieve a timely permanent plan. Recruits and trains prospective adoptive applicants. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of social work principles, practices, and techniques. Knowledge of human behavior and variables affecting behavior. Knowledge of social, economic, and health problems and solutions. Knowledge of counseling and intervention methods and techniques. Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and regulations, County ordinances and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of child development. Knowledge of the effects of trauma on children. Knowledge of available community resources and programs. Skill in planning, prioritizing, and organizing work. Skill in operating a computer, facsimile machine, calculator, and automobile. Skill in public and interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work or related field and two to four years of social work or related experience. Master’s in Social Work is preferred. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
