(Bret) Minutes. (Becky) 8:18 Application sentence move to 8:15. Lisa
moved to approve. (Gary) Seconded
6:33 – 6:37
(Lisa) Parent Leader meeting - Technology Visit (Learning Journey)
- 2 schools visited RHS and Red Pine
- RHS was impressive with the technology, Red Pine visit was not as
impressive (class less prepared).
- (John) Westview Elementary. Kids were excited about the technology and
working together. Falcon Ridge working on World Language using it with
headphones. Both experiences were interesting
6:37 – 6:46
(Brandon) Student Council. Ending out the year. New President, Vice
President - 5 Officers next year.
- Neon Dance made money - keep it going
- (Becky) Student applications for the DJ? Not sure. Ended up with Tate
- (Becky) Shamrock Ball was successful. Special Needs students matched
up with the NHS Kids. (John) It was one of the top 5 events in his 30 years
in teaching.
6:46 – 7:07
(John) Advisory Video shown - Early Learning.
- (Bret) Mark's contention to hold off until facilities are in place? (John) We
are being selective in our District.
7:07 – 7:27
(John) Safety Program Feedback
- Concern for kids getting the education in early. Multiple teens as
passengers - first 6 months one passenger only. Adding more teens as they
get older.
- It's an issue around active/sports participating kids - driving each other
around
- (Gary) Brought his 14 yr old daughter to see the program to understand the
dangers
- (Heidi) Liked the "designated passenger" idea. Sports are dictating putting
kids in the car together (John) Sports are no longer covered by school - on
the parents' backs. (Brandon) Designated Driver concept? Not really
use/think about it. Peers? No
- (Becky) National Honor Society or Student Council be involved in
awareness? Tim Bergstedt with the Driver's Education program fully
endorses a driver’s educations campaign.
RHS Site Council – Bret Phillips, Secretary
2014-2015
7:27 – 7:38
(John) Attendance Policy.
- Current Policy in a Trimester: 10 Absences earn a NC or an F (with some
exceptions - medical, etc.). 3 tardies equals an absence
- Attendance policy executive summary was read - going away next Fall
- 10 absences now starts an investigation
- Dr. Conboy: using a focus group to address tardiness - which is a willful act
- (Marci) What was the main reason for this? (John) Legal concerns
surrounding existing attendance rule.
- (John) Not being shared with teachers yet
- (Marci) Is there consistency with other schools?
7:38 – 7:55
(John) Exchange. Statewide ACT on April 28th. April 14th & 15th students
follow the final exam schedule (double blocks). Juniors in Math, English and
Science classes work with teachers to prepare for ACT’s. Seniors do not
report to school on exam day. May 12 is the ACT make up - so, another
challenge for scheduling
- (Becky) Eastview had students take a practice ACT (John) We are
approaching it differently for students to work by subject section with the
teachers on April 14 and 15.
- (Bret) Are the MCA's being replaced by ACT? (John) No. Both tests in
place.
- (Brandon) Option to not take it if they've already taken it (John) All students
will take the test regardless
7:55 – 7:57
(Mary) Financials
- $7130.70 total
- Arts balance is $60,647
- Athletics no change
- $5,855.97 Scholarships, Two were claimed the past month.
7:57 – 8:03
(Becky) Two Scholarships will be awarded this coming Spring Trimester.
Date and Time Friday, May 22... 9-10:30 AM - need a volunteer.
Lisa indicated she could be there.
8:03 – 8:19
(John) Review of the Rank Proposal - Summary by John
- Eliminate Class Rank (unless specific school requested it). Not to be
confused with Farmington when they can request for any reason
- Concern that Rank is still communicated with percentage honors
designation
- An Honors program will replace honors rank. Entry into the program will be
the same as the old honors rank entry.
- Recommendation by the Site Council to vote to eliminate it now rather than
wait for this year’s 7th grade class.
- Will continue to evaluate at next meeting
8:19
(Becky/John) Adjournment
