Greg presented the 2008 Parent Survey of over 3,000 participants for the Dakota County S.H.I.P. which focuses on changing the physical activity in students. Key Rosemount Topics: included concerns focused on physical activity and nutrition. IOM (Institute Of Medicine) Federal Agency – which the county now bases its guidelines, identifies a shortage of healthy vending items and shows a concern over the sale of unhealthy treats by booster programs. Federal regulations will eventually eliminate income gained by selling unhealthy food to support school programs. Changes already seen…Schwan's (based in Marshall, MN), the largest public school pizza provider, has already taken steps to change its formula to fit the Institute Of Medicine Standards. (Jeanine) – raised the issue of “how much is too much” for the County and Federal government to tell us how much and what is appropriate. (John) Assignment to the Council to provide feedback for next meeting regarding what work, if any the Council would like to do on this topic. 6:58 – 7:27 (John) Introduced Dr. Tim Conboy to discuss the RHS Emergency Plan. This topic was recommended by (Becky) in light of the recent Indiana school tornados and the Ohio shooting incident. Dr. Conboy explained that there are Ten Emergency categories. Each of these teams possesses an emergency procedures folder containing instructions for Fire Drills, Evacuation information, phone numbers, etc. Dr. Conboy discussed how the State Statute requires 5 fire drills per year. RHS has even conducted drills in conjunction with the Rosemount Police Department by staging a student with a weapon in a preidentified class where parent permission had been obtained. Both the RPD and RHS staff have gone through extensive training. Conboy reported that Irish Confidential is a anonymous link on the RHS web site for students to report incidents. The students are aware of it. There has not been a history of serious reporting thus far. Incidents from fighting to cigarettes to complaining that teachers were assigning too much homework have all been reported. Once… Dr. Conboy even had to chase a coyote off the school grounds. It was anonymously reported by students that were distracted during last Spring’s Finals. In short, our school is prepared. (Becky) added that select members from all areas of the school are part of the Emergency Team (nurse, counselor, custodial staff, etc.). (Jacy) asked how our Team handled the bank robbery two years ago. Dr. Conboy commented that protocol was in effect – however it was limited, since they were outside the perimeter. It was agreed that a hand-written letter will be used to thank donors. 7:56 – 8:13 (John) explained how enrollment projections are calculated. 2012-2013 sectioning for student populations. 26.25 to one (student/teacher ratio). Ratios are higher because students have 7 classes and teacher teach 5/day. Because our school budget is in the black we’re able to spend additional budget dollars to increase the number of teachers. Bad news, if our budget is ever not in black, we would need to reduce the number of additional teachers hired. John explained how the number of teachers the school is allocated is determined by school enrollment. Next year’s enrollment projections by John (2060) are aligned with the District’s projection (2059). 8:13 – 8:28 (Becky) St. Patrick’s Day Fundraiser. (Tracey) Reports that the deadline for getting participating businesses in the Town Pages is 3/9. The website will also carry the names. 8:28 – 8:30 (John) Open Topics. The school dance problem subject will be brought to Student Council for review. (Jeanine) Market Survey – fundraiser is making progress. Meeting Adjourned 8:30
