Rosemount Elementary School Visit our Website - http://district196.org/re BOOKS! BOOKS! This is a reminder that all library books are due to the Rosemount Elementary School Library by May 29th this year. This date allows the children to have their books over the long Memorial Day weekend. We would appreciate your help in reminding your children to return their books on time. If your child has a damaged or lost book they should also pay for the book by May 29th. If the books are not returned by June 1st the student will be charged for the book. Please help your student return the books to the media center. What’s a great source of free entertainment for you and your child to share in the upcoming summer months? The Public Library (of course!) The Rosemount Elementary staff highly encourages you to take your children to the public library this summer for lots of fun! The public library provides many activities such as movies, storytellers, magicians and more, as well as the opportunity for your child to check out a wealth of books and audiovisual materials. And it’s all FREE!!! It’s easy to get a public library card for your child if he/she doesn’t already have one. All you need is: 1. Address Verification: Telephone bill, driver’s license, canceled mail, etc... 2. Information: Complete name, date of birth, address, telephone number 3. Parent or guardian: To cosign for the card. There is no minimum age to get a public library card, but the child must be able to write their name. We encourage you to get a library card for each and every child in your family. The library card can be used the day you apply for it. Summer Reading Resource Library at RES Will be Open again this Summer ! Reading is like playing ball or learning to ride a bike. The more you do it, the better you get. You have to practice ! Teachers will be there to assist the children with selecting leveled books at their current reading level. Look for the summer reading library dates coming home soon in Friday Folders. VOLUNTEER CORNER This is my last item for the Ledger as Volunteer Coordinator. It has been wonderful serving the PTO and helping Rosemount Elementary students and families for the past 3 years. I have enjoyed ge#ng to know so many generous parents and working with the RES staff. To all volunteers, thank you one more (me for all your efforts in making our school such a great place for our children to learn and grow. Volunteers are a necessary part of RES. Our awesome teachers have many responsibili(es, and volunteers provide the necessary addi(onal support in the educa(onal growth of the students. Volunteers also are involved with ac(vi(es so students have fun as well, such as going on field trips, assis(ng at class par(es, and helping at family events like the Monster Mash and Family Fun Night. All of those efforts, big and small, make a difference and help our students succeed. There is one more need for volunteers. The PTO will sponsor the Spring Field Day on Thursday, May 31st. Grades K, 1st, and 2nd will have ac(vi(es in the morning, and grades 3, 4 & 5 will par(cipate in the a7ernoon. Ac(vi(es will include inflatables, Obstacle course, tug-of-war, and hurdles. Please look for Friday folder announcements for volunteer opportuni(es. I hope the remaining weeks of school are filled with learning and fun. May all have a great summer break! Sincerely, Pa:y Grunklee, RESVolunteer@gmail.com FRIENDLYREMINDER: It has been a pleasure serving your child(ren) meals this school year. June 8th is fast approaching and I would like to stress the importance of achieving and maintaining a positive monetary breakfast/lunch account balance beginning on May 30, 2012. On this day and through the end of the school year, there will be no “charging” of meals permitted. We will be offering the children who have an insufficient fund balance, a peanut butter sandwich and carton of milk for lunch. Reminder slips will be sent home daily to give you ample time to enter payment(s) into your son/daughter’s account(s). Any questions, please contact Shannon at 651-423-7679. Use of e-mail at Rosemount Elementary School: We value effective communication at our school. The use of e-mail has increased over the last few years. Most of our staff members do not have their e-mail accounts open during the school day while they are working with students. As stated in our handbook: The staff at RES have an agreement to reply to e-mails within two school days. If your need to communicate with a staff member is urgent, please call the school office (651-423-7690) and we will relay your message to the appropriate person. The last PTO meeting of the year is Tuesday, May 1st. Please find out more about the PTO and get ready for the next school year. Patty Grunklee is stepping down as the Volunteer Coordinator. I would like to thank her for her dedication and commitment to Rosemount Elementary and the PTO. We are very thankful for all the hard work over these past 3 years, and look forward to her continued involvement with RES (she has 4 kids, 2 of which are still at RES). Along with all the hard-work you see her do, there is a lot of non-visible work that is required to be a Volunteer Coordinator. We greatly appreciate ALL that she has done! We do have a new coordinator for 2012-13, Annie Miga. She has been working with Patty over the past month learning about the position, and is very excited to be the next Volunteer Coordinator. Thanks Annie for taking on this very important position and look forward to working with you to make RES better for our kids. The PTO president for next year is Becky Pasch. She is the current President-elect, Scholastic Bookfair Coordinator, and Box Tops Coordinator. It is very exciting to have someone as dedicated as her be the PTO president for 2012-13. We will be electing a Community Liaison and Secretary at the next PTO meeting. If you are interested, you can find out more about those positions in the bylaws (located at http://www.repto.org/about-us). Also, at our last meeting, the 2012-13 budget will be approved. Thanks to all who gave up some time during spring break to do a clean up on our gardens and to those who purchased Plant Gift cards recently. We raised $255 for the school to help maintain the gardens. Soon you will see coupons to use at garden centers when you purchase plants. These can be used only during certain time periods and help raise more dollars as the centers give a % of sales back to us. You can now order cards from Gerten’s Garden Center any time, by going to this link which was set up for our school. The cards will be mailed to you and the school gets 11% back. http://www.gertens.com/cart/rosemounthttp://www.gertens.com/cart/rosemount-elementaryelementaryfundraiser.html This link will soon be on the school website too. Wanted! Summer Garden & Front Caretakers We need families again who are willing to sign up for a week or two during the summer to: pull weeds, trim bushes, pick up trash, plant and transplant if needed in a designated area of our school. This is a great family project and can be done anytime during your week. Put in as much time as you can and help keep our school beautiful. Signup sheets will begin coming home in May so keep a look out! From the School Nurse… *EpiPens *Medications *Inhalers All medications and EpiPens must be picked up by an adult at the end of the school year unless your child is attending Summer School. Inhalers will be sent home with students on the last day of school. Any medications remaining 30 days after the end of the school year will be discarded. Please remember when planning for next fall that all medications and/or inhalers require written authorization from parent and physician. An Asthma or Allergy Action Plan is preferred for students with asthma or severe allergies requiring an EpiPen. Most physicians have these forms available in their clinic. The American Lung Association recommends children with asthma are seen every 6 months by a physician. Have a safe and healthy summer.
