Expectations for Mr. Poole’s Classes Tardies and absences: 1. Students are to be in their seats when the bell rings a. After three tardies, parents will be notified. b. After 5 tardies, administrative action will be taken. 2. Students are responsible for their absences. a. After 3 unexcused absences, parents will be notified. b. After 6 unexcused absences, the student may be dropped from the class. c. Students are responsible for all makeup work d. If too many absences occur for any reason, students may not be able to pass the class due to its participatory nature. Assignments and Homework: 1. Students are responsible for turning their assignments and homework in on time. a. If a student needs additional time to complete an assignment, he or she should contact Mr. Poole to work out the arrangements. Language Arts and Math: 1. Correct sentence structure, grammar and spelling will be required on all assignments unless specifically instructed otherwise. Hint: Do NOT begin any sentence with a pronoun, like the words ‘it ‘ or ‘they’ or the word ‘because’. 2. We will be working with data, graphs and other mathematical applications. You will be expected to bring a calculator to class. Behavior: Appropriate class participation is highly encouraged 1. ANY AND ALL behavior that presents a danger to anyone will not be allowed and will be dealt with harshly. 2. NO food or drink in the classroom. Only water in approved containers is allowed. 2. NO put downs or obscenities will be allowed. Period. 3. Students are to remain in their seats until the bell rings. Do not line up at the door. 4. Behavior must not interfere with the learning of others or disrupt the class. Group Behavior: Much of the work in my classes is done in small groups of two or three students. 1. You are expected to be “on task” and working as a team during group assignments. 2. Group assignments will have a cooperation / contribution part of the assessment. 3. You are responsible for understanding all aspects of group assignments, not just your part of the contribution towards the assignment. 4. If your behavior detracts from group success or disrupts the group or classroom, you may be prohibited from participating in group activities. Lab Safety. Laboratory experiments involve working with fire, chemicals, glassware, hot liquids and other potentially hazardous situations. 1. You and you alone are responsible for your behavior during lab situations. There will be NO messing around during lab activities. Ignorance is not an excuse. 2. ANY inappropriate or dangerous behavior during lab activities WILL result in administrative action. 3. You will be responsible for following lab safety techniques.
