CONGRATULATIONS To Naeemah Clark (Ph.D. 2002), whose dissertation, “These Dames are Bananas: The History of Action for Children’s Television, 1969-1992,” was selected for honorable mention for the 2003 American Journalism Historians Association’s top dissertation award. Bernell E. Tripp chaired Clark’s dissertation committee. Clark is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. To MA/JD students Alison Rumley and Meghan McShane, who were invited to join the Journal of Law & Public Policy and were elected to the JLPP Senior Board. Rumley will serve as assistant managing editor and McShane will serve as articles text senior. Amanda Reid (J.D./Ph.D. student) will serve as JLPP’s editor-in-chief beginning spring. MA/JD student Wes Brewer will be concluding his term as Executive Managing Editor on the Florida Journal of International Law at the end of this semester. To Linda Correll, who has two presentations accepted for international conferences. “Hello! Developing a User-Friendly Ideation System in a Global Village” was accepted for the First AIMS International Conference on Management, to be hosted by the Indian Institute of Management Dec. 28-31. “New Directions in Global Commercial Communication: Creative Aerobics: The Art of Ideation” has been accepted for the Second International Conference on New Directions in the Humanities, to be held July 20-23 at Monash University Centre in Prato, Tuscany, Italy. To Lisa Duke and John Sutherland, whose paper, “The Central Properties of Creative Concepts: A Qualitative Content Analysis of 583 Working Creative Professionals,” has been accepted for presentation at the 2004 American Academy of Advertising Conference to be held in Baton Rouge, March 25-28. To Colleen Connolly-Ahern (Ph.D. student), who has accepted a position as assistant professor at Penn State University. EARLY HEARST RESULTS Congratulations to Journalism students Greg Undeen and Cynthia Wallace, who placed in round one (portrait/feature) of the Hearst photo journalism contest. Undeen placed seventh and won a $500 award with a match for the department. Wallace placed in a tie for 14th place. NO. 6 FOR THE RECORD Lisa Duke has been appointed to serve on the American Academy of Advertising Research Committee, which oversees three national competitions: Lisa Duke the Outstanding Contribution to Research Awards, Research Fellowships and the dissertation grant competition. Sandra Chance presented a workshop Nov. 21 at the Florida Bar’s Reporters Workshop in Tallahassee. More than 20 reporters from around the state attended the threeday conference that teaches how to report on the courts and the judicial system and use government-inthe-sunshine laws. Chance also attended the AEJMC mid-winter meeting in Atlanta, Dec. Sandra Chance 5-7. She received the highest number of votes in this year’s election to the organization’s national Professional Freedom and Responsibility (PF&R) Committee, and began serving a two-year term.
